They do sometimes come out if they're made by independent production companies commissioned by the BBC. But who has time to watch them?

Maybe that's one reason, but, I think the main reason is that there is no profit to be made. Dr Who box sets? Kerching! Blackadder? Ditto..... Martin Carthy....Errm who? BBC Worldwide (who release the DVDs) is almost a commercial company, that has to make a profit. Do as I do, keep an eye on the TV listings and have a VHS machine ready and waiting. I've got lots of folk/trad stuff on tape over the years, just by keeping alert. But, commercial DVDs being released? Not going to happen anytime soon. And with the cutbacks happening at the Beeb, future programmes probably won't even be commissioned. When they abolish BBC4 all will be lost. Just bloody Strictly come dancing on ice with your big brother, (If he has talent)

I am surprised by the the lack of folk music DVDs from the BBC.What are the obstacles to seeing these shows on DVD?Is it a licensing thing?
