Subject: Lyr Add: THE BONNY BOY^^ From: Alice Date: 19 Sep 99 - 12:21 AM Here is a different song than the other Bonny Boy songs that are in the database.
THE BONNY BOY
The trees are growing high my love, and the grass is growing green;
Oh! father, dear father I think you did me wrong
Oh! daughter, dear daughter, I did not do you wrong
Oh! father, dear father, I'll tell you what I'll do;
A year it went by and I passed the college wall
At the age of sixteen years he was a married man,
I'll buy my love a shroud of the Holland linen brown; |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: (different) The Bonny Boy From: Date: 19 Sep 99 - 01:44 PM The is not the same song as "Bonny Boy' in DT, it is Laws O35, for which there are 3 tunes in DT (search for O35). |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: (different) The Bonny Boy From: Philippa Date: 19 Sep 99 - 02:38 PM I tried unsuccessfully to search for 035. I know the song also under the titles of 'Lang a-Growing' and 'The Trees they do grow high'. I didn't find these in the database, but there is a Robert Burns version called Lady Mary Ann and another entry under the name 'Daily Growing', which will give you three tunes to sample. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: (different) The Bonny Boy From: Alice Date: 19 Sep 99 - 02:48 PM I finally found 035 by searching Laws* and scrolling down through all the list of Laws! Is there an easier way? Here is a link to the page with Laws 035 tune in the DT at DAILY GROWING (BONNY BOY IS YOUNG OR TREES GROW HIGH, ETC.) The version I posted above is from Mary O'Hara. |
