Subject: A Fox Hollow question From: Deckman Date: 29 May 11 - 09:16 AM I'm in possesion of a live R/R recording made at a Fox Hollow Festival. I have very little information about this recording. I'm trying to archive it. Questions: does anyone know if any vinal recordings were ever made of the Fox Hollow festivals" Here is the play list of the first few songs: Instrumental, likely Bob's psaltry; Fiddler speaks, then the Beers family sings "Suns gonna' Shine In My Backyard Some Day; Theo Bikel singing a Russian song; Evelyne Beers sings Amazing Grace; Guy Carawan sings "Thats All Right. ... does anyone recognize when and how this recording made? I've read all the previous postings about Fox Hollow and I find nothing would help me. Any guidance is appreciated. bob(deckman)nelson |
Subject: RE: A Fox Hollow question From: open mike Date: 29 May 11 - 10:13 AM How is it going with archiving your recordings...glad you got some good 'uns! Is this festival any relation to Hollowfox? |
Subject: RE: A Fox Hollow question From: Elmore Date: 29 May 11 - 10:27 AM The festival put out a couple of records. In 2004 WSHU in Connecticut played the one you're looking for as part of a show titled The Old Songs-Fox Hollow Connection. I had one of those records, but my first wife kept my records as well as the stereo, the house and the kid. I think she threw it out.The record, I mean. |

Subject: RE: A Fox Hollow question From: Elmore Date: 29 May 11 - 03:09 PM Attn: Susan of DT Just reading your list brought back a lot of great memories. However, Garnet Rogers never played Fox Hollow. Nor did Stan or Richard. Grant, Gamble, and Sally did. Also, Barbara Carns didn't have an i in her last name, Respectfully, Elmore. |
Subject: RE: A Fox Hollow question From: Thomas Stern Date: 29 May 11 - 06:21 PM a clarification to the FOX HOLLOW discography: The festival self produced FIVE albums: 1967 Vol.I pitter poon, the rain come doon Vol.II Clitter, Clatter, Down Come the Water 1968 Vol.III All Those People 1969 Vol.IV And Not One Police no albums for 1970-1971 1972 Vol.VII Vol.7 IN ADDITION, Biograph Records issued 2 10th Anniversary albums, each in two versions (thus actually 4 albums). The initial release of the 2 albums was withdrawn due to license problems. The albums were re-edited with the offending tracks removed and other tracks added. Biograph BLP 12051 Fox Hollow 10th Anniversary Vol.1 A PLACE TO BE Biograph BLP 12052 Fox Hollow 10th Anniversary Vol.2 YOU GOT MAGIC Best wishes, Thomas. |
Subject: RE: A Fox Hollow question From: Deckman Date: 30 May 11 - 09:25 AM Hi "Open Mike" ... I'm finally reponding to your questions: "Fox Hollow" was a festival produced by the Beers family. Not being a happy traveler, I never attended, but I well knew of it's reputation as presenting the best of the best. I know nothing about the "Hollow Fox" you mentioned. Regarding my archiving project: I took a six month vacation for the archiving while I was concentrating my efforts with the "Pacific Northwest Folklore Society." I am now diminshing my work with the society and getting back to my archiving. The thing about my tape recordings is that if I don't archive them, no one else will ... or can. That's a constant concern to me. BTW ... Judy and I are often in touch with miken. Shoot me a PM if you want an update. CHEERS, bob(deckman)nelson |
Subject: RE: A Fox Hollow question From: GUEST,Tim Date: 05 Jun 13 - 07:34 PM I'm very (VERY) interested in obtaining copies of Vol. 1 and 7 of the Fox Hollow recordings. Does anybody out there have copies for sale, barter, embezzelment (no, wait, that doesn't work) or any other such thing? Respondez, please. And thanks. |
Subject: RE: A Fox Hollow question From: GUEST,Bob Coltman Date: 05 Jun 13 - 07:52 PM The Festival continued to get album play subsequent to the death of its founder, Bob "Fiddler" Beers. Biograph Records of Canaan, NY put out an LP in 1975, edited by Bob's earlier wife Evelyne Burnstine: "You Got Magic": Fox Hollow 10th Anniversary, Biograph BLP-12052. The LP was a culling of favorites from the festival's 10-year history. Subject: RE: A Fox Hollow question From: Susan of DT Date: 05 Jun 13 - 07:54 PM Hollow Fox, a mudcatter, went to Fox Hollow and chose her handle to honor it. The hollow fox was also a silhouette used on fox hollow advertising. Tim - I will think about parting with them. |
Subject: RE: A Fox Hollow question From: GUEST,Tim Date: 06 Jun 13 - 11:15 AM Susan of DT - Thanks for the reply. Copies of the recordings would suffice, if I wasn't clear on that. Got a CD burner or even a tape deck? Thanks. Tim |

Subject: RE: A Fox Hollow question From: kendall Date: 06 Jun 13 - 07:24 PM Come to think of it, it may have been the Gotta get gone festival in 1973, maybe? Jean Redpath was there. |
