Subject: Si Kahn @ Borderline Picnic August 28 From: GUEST,Rabbi-Sol Date: 29 May 11 - 01:18 PM Join us for the 3rd annual Borderline Picnic, singing party, and jam on Sunday, August 28th from 12 Noon to 6 PM. This is a FREE event for the community and will feature 6 hours of non-stop music and fun with over 20 musicians participating. This year our guest of honor will be the legendary Si Kahn who is flying up from North Carolina to be with us. Besides doing a 30 minute solo set, Si will be conducting an educational workshop on the themes of the day which are Organized Labor and Immigration. 4 other well known musicians will be on the workshop panel with Si. At the end of the day, Si will lead a sing-along with all musicians participating, culminating in a grand finale. In addition to the main stage, there will also be a separate area for jamming and singing in which all are welcome to participate. We ask all participants to bring lawn chairs as well as a cold potluck dish to share with 6 other people. The Borderline will provide soft drinks, paper goods, and plastic ware. Please bear in mind that we are an alcohol free venue and none will be permitted on the premises. Craft vendors are welcome. The venue is the New City Volunteer Ambulance Corps located at 200 - Congers Road, New City, NY. 10956, across from Clarkstown North HS. There is plenty of free parking available on premises. For those of you coming up from New York City, the Coach USA (Red & Tan Lines) route 9A bus from Port Authority, stops right at our front door. Although the event is free we are asking all participants to make reservations so that we know in advance how many people to prepare for. You can do this by e-mail to solz1@optonline.net or by calling (845) 354-4586. All Facebook reservations must be re-confirmed by either e-mail or phone. |

Subject: RE: Si Kahn @ Borderline Picnic August 28 From: Dan Schatz Date: 26 Aug 11 - 11:44 AM I'm sure Sol is very busy, so I'll post this for him. New City is now under a Hurricane Watch, flights and trains are already being canceled all over the place, and all in all it doesn't look good. So Si, Sol and Mara Levine (the wonderful singer who has been handling the programming) had a conference call this morning. Shortly after, Mara sent us a letter: "Dear performers and other participants, The decision has been made to potpone the picnic due to the pending hurricane. Everyone's safety is our primary concern, and with the threat of high winds and flooding, we feel this is the best course of action. Si has committed to returning next year August 26, 2012. Please let me know if you will commit as well to that date. Also, please send out notices to your lists, facebook pages, and any other organizations you may have contacted to convey the cancellation and postponement til next year. Any phone calls you can make are also appreciated to others who you know were coming. We had over 500 reservations so far. Thank you all for your willingness to participate, all the best, Mara" I admit to being a little relieved about not having to make a decision about whether to brave the New Jersey Turnpike on Sunday - but very bummed that it went this way. Thanks to the organizers for all of their work and for a difficult and wise decision. Dan PS: Can a MudElf help us with the Subject line to indicate the postponement until 2012? |
