Our own Mary Smith will be performing chez TRUBRIT on Saturday June 4th. she will be accompanied by Tom Martin (Widely regarded as one of the finest guitarists to have come out of Ireland, but primarily a brilliant songwriter of longstanding cult status...easy to listen to, hard to define, with the melodic touch of a Paul Simon and the lyrical insight of John Prine, but a sound and a songwriting skill that is undeniably his own" Belfast Telegraph)

Sorry about the short notice - venue was a bit of a problem this time, together with me being absent in the UK for almost three weeks.

Doors open at 7pm, concert to start around 7.30pm. Desserts and beverages served during the interval. All contributions gratefully accepted.

We're really looking forward to this! Tom Martin is a brilliant songwriter and guitarist. We'll be doing a combination of traditional folk and Tom's originals, along with some gems from people like Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams.

Here's a link to my website http://www.maryfsmith.com

And to Tom's website http://www.tommartinmusic.com

And here's a link to the program we did at Richmond Folk Music http://www.richmondfolkmusic.com/page35.htm

Please come out and see us!

I will be there. Will try to convince Jason to come out and play, and maybe grab Michael and Kathy, too. Jason's parents will unfortunately be otherwise occupied.

Cheese is considered a dessert - you can bring cheese. I'm bringing blackberry wine and a couple of other assorted beverages.

I'm bringing key lime pie and an apple pie. I know Deb is doing some fruit and cheese. Extra fruit and cheese probably won't go too far wrong - healthy options are good!

Tom will be bringing his brother and hopefully a few friends as well - it's looking good. See y'all tomorrow (Better drop the y'all I guess - I'm pretty far north of the Mason Dixon line...)

Superb! We knew that Mary would be first class entertainment - she has a beautiful voice and a way of putting traditional folk across that is spellbinding - but Tom was a real 'find'. He is an amazingly excellent picker (Kendall hates him) and performs both traditional and his own songs in such a way that the evening went much too fast. Both could have gone on for twice as long and I think that we would all have been happy to listen.

Come back again, both of you.

A delightful evening with a couple who are welcome back any time.
(Provided Mary gets that damned car alarm fixed!) It went off three times in the night. I just got back to sleep when the back yard motion sensor light came on. I got up to see who or what was causing it to come on and it was a beautiful Grey Fox.

It was an evening full of surprises. I was expecting a night of traditional, mainly Irish, tunes and instead got everything from Hank Williams to some brilliant blues picking along with some traditional and singer/sonwriter material with Woody Guthrie thrown in for good measure. Lots of chorus songs. And as an added surprise Maeve and Kathy walked in the door.
TRUBRIT and Tom handled the overflow crowd with their usual good graces. Thank you both for making this possible.
A thoroughly satisfying evening.
SINS

LOL Sarah Palin took a beating last night. Tom almost did when he accused us of electing Bush twice. Funny moment. He realized he was preaching to the choir.

Hello folks - I made it home in one day. Left Kendall's sometime around 6:00 am (sorry about that car alarm!)and decided I'd bite the bullet and take 95 and drive as far south as I could, and I got home around 7:30. Thanks to all the Mainers who organized the concert, especially Jacqui, Kendall, Mary and of course Deb and Tom, who hosted us in their beautiful victorian parlor, and also to the folks who came out to see us. I knew Tom would go over well - he's an amazing guitarist and songwriter, and approaches the trad material with his own style which works well. I enjoyed the evening and I'm sure he did too.

Did anybody get photos? I meant to take some but forgot....It was such a lovely evening. I wish I'd had more time to spend in Maine. Tom will probably be back through the area in late October - any venue suggestions for him?

Is he looking for bigger venues? One Longfellow Square is one that comes to mind right away.

Blue on Congress Street might also be a possibility.

No he doesn't really want big venues, but if possible listening venues as opposed to pubs and bars. I checked the websites - One Longfellow Square is probably not realistic as Tom is not known in the area and they seem to book better known regional and national acts, but Blue might be and it's worth sending an inquiry. Thanks!
