Subject: Review: Anyone like Ken Nordine? From: saulgoldie Date: 09 Jun 11 - 10:04 AM Not exactly "folkloric." But I know that folks here have eclectic tastes. Check out this one video, and look at a few others of his to get a better sense of who he is and what he does. Don't know if he's still alive. But his work is available. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYi07EhENJI&feature=related Saul |
Subject: RE: Anyone like Ken Nordine? From: bobad Date: 09 Jun 11 - 11:07 AM I've always dug him. Michael Enright of the CBC did an excellent interview with him this past January on the occasion of Ken's 90th birthday. It can be heard here -- click on listen to hour two -- the piece is titled Word Jazz. |
Subject: RE: Anyone like Ken Nordine? From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 09 Jun 11 - 11:21 AM Nordine made three or for albums of Word Jazz. He had the mellowist, most hypnotic/seductive voice. In the mid-'50s he recorded a killer recitation backed by the music EBB TIDE. I just looked for it at You Tube and google to no avail. |

Subject: RE: Anyone like Ken Nordine? From: Rain Dog Date: 09 Jun 11 - 12:28 PM Also on YouTube A short documentary program profiling the 'spoken word' great Ken Nordine. Ken was a contemporary of the beat poets, crafting whimsical, absurdist pieces of 'word jazz', even while becoming the leading voice over artist of Madison Avenue in the 60s and 70s. Featuring interviews with Tom Waits, Laurie Anderson, Billy Corgan, DJ Food and others. It is in 3 parts. First part is here Stare with your ears Thanks for the link to the radio interview. Will listen to that later |
Subject: RE: Anyone like Ken Nordine? From: GUEST,babypix Date: 10 Jun 11 - 05:56 AM Ken is still alive and on Facebook! He'll always be an important part of Chicago radio-- just like WFMT and "The Midnight Special" folk music program! |
