Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: Tattie Bogle Date: 13 Jul 11 - 10:07 AM That's just about as bad as the disapproving mother-in-law emails!! It would be nice if they would put the full programme on the website, so's I can decide which tickets to buy: there's only the Ham, Bulverton, and Manor Pavilion so far, and nothing about workshops at all. It says it will be on there "in July" but it's now the 13th already and Early booking discount ceases on the 24th. |

Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: Tattie Bogle Date: 01 Jul 11 - 02:02 PM VT, I'm sure they will be happy to sell you a T-shirt, in fact you may be the prime target market! I have accumulated four, two yellows and two blacks over the ?12 years I've been a MBSer, so don't really need any more unless they start falling apart or fading after all that silly singing in the sea! Loud shirts? And loud melodeons?? Not ALOUD in the Middle Bar! |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: melodeonboy Date: 01 Jul 11 - 04:48 AM I'll be there for three or four days. (Watch out for loud shirts!) Yes, sad news about the Ship. I've had some good times in there. |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: VirginiaTam Date: 30 Jun 11 - 01:39 PM Is it appropriate for a one time Middle Bar Singer (last year's Sidmouth Folk Week was my first and so I was a MBS virgin) to have a MBS tshirt? Fully intend to join the MBS againt this year as stewarding duties permit. |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: Dave Earl Date: 25 Jun 11 - 12:53 PM Thought I'd indicated what I wanted but I Yellow size L please Mike |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: JennyO Date: 25 Jun 11 - 08:21 AM Assuming that is Mike, what is the minimum order? I'll ask freda underhill if she wants one. So far all she said was that she doesn't do t shirts, especially yellow, but who knows? For this occasion, she might. |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: GUEST Date: 25 Jun 11 - 06:13 AM There will be a minimum order so far I only have two, for the t shirts and as I have just started a new job I will have to see But if I do the T shirts I have made a note of your orders. I have a house full of folk musicians from Oxford staying with me looking to set up or join in a mixed session should be a good week oh yes and the fund raising night for the life boat is going ahead early start on the Tuesday night in the anchor Mike Gibson |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: JennyO Date: 24 Jun 11 - 01:53 PM Thanks heaps, Kitty! |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: Herga Kitty Date: 24 Jun 11 - 11:19 AM Jenny - I've passed on your order! Kitty |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: JennyO Date: 23 Jun 11 - 07:16 PM Well, Rob and I would both like one. One XL and one XXL please! Should I let him know directly? |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: Herga Kitty Date: 23 Jun 11 - 06:37 PM Jenny - Mike Gibson (who managed to procure MBS t-shirts for the Boston song and single malt contingent who visited Sidmouth last year) has volunteered to sort some out for this year too, but needs to know how many people will want to acquire one of them. Kitty |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: Sue the Borderer Date: 22 Jun 11 - 07:40 PM Ruth - thanks for the link to the new page about The Transports. Sounds fantastic. Although I'm generally not a concert-goer I think I booked my ticket the day after they went on sale in mid May. The write-up makes me even more convinced that I did the right thing. I might even wear my yellow T-shirt for swimming in the sea first. Sue |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: Herga Kitty Date: 22 Jun 11 - 06:24 PM Jenny - I've forwarded your t-shirt query to the Middle Bar newsgroup! Kitty PS is it really 10 years since Miguel and the choir were over....? |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: JennyO Date: 22 Jun 11 - 08:20 AM I'd be happy to wear the yellow t shirt if I could get my hands on one. I asked, but there didn't seem to be any on sale last year and nobody knew how I could get one :( Does anyone know if there will be any this year? |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: Dave Earl Date: 21 Jun 11 - 06:41 PM "Will there be the pub crawl shanty sing to raise money for Sidmouth Life Boat? " The answer to that is quite definately yes -Isn't it Jeff (Tug the Cox) Dave |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: Herga Kitty Date: 21 Jun 11 - 12:50 PM Jenny - also the appropriate yellow t-shirt.... AFAIK, and unless there are radical departures from tradition, swimming in the sea will be on Thursday after the lunchtime silly songs session, and before the Doom & Gloom workshop. Kitty |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: JennyO Date: 21 Jun 11 - 07:03 AM Freda, I thought you knew about singing in the sea. Not all of us got to do it in 2001 when we were there with the choir, but I know Miguel did. Just ask him. There are photos somewhere. I forget which day it happens, but at the appointed time, the Middle Bar Singers meet outside the Anchor, and walk down to the beach singing shanties and the like, and a large number of brave souls keep on going down into the water and form a big circle and keep on singing. I didn't go in last year because I didn't have the appropriate footwear, but I intend to remedy that this year :) |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: Leadfingers Date: 20 Jun 11 - 08:14 PM Well at least any American visitors will feel at home , having a Folk session in a Coffee Bar ! I think I will stay in The Newt and drink beer ! |

Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: freda underhill Date: 19 Jun 11 - 07:31 PM Singing in the sea? pebbly beaches? I've a lot to learn! and thanks to Leadfingers, who has offered me a lift from london. I'll be going to Maidenhead the night before, as well. freeeeda :-) |

Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: VirginiaTam Date: 19 Jun 11 - 03:26 PM I think stewards had their assignments by this time last year and the volunteer organisers were working bugs out of a new system. We are a bit worried. The caravan's tap exploded 2 weeks ago at Pig's Ear Folk Ale and the roof sprang a pretty scary leak this weekend at Knockholt. Hope we can get it fixed, because we cannot afford to stay in a B&B (even if one was available) and pay for parking in town to do our stewarding duties. |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: JennyO Date: 19 Jun 11 - 01:53 PM Rob and I will be there the whole week, staying at a nice place a bit out of town with freda underhill, who will then come back home and stay with us for a few days after. We decided to bite the bullet and get season tickets because we know we want to do some of the workshops and there are some acts we want to see, but we also expect to spend a lot of our time in the Middle Bar and the Radway, and this year I'll probably borrow Rob's extra pair of river sandals so I can go singing in the sea. I'm afraid I can't get used to walking on stony beaches in bare feet - I'm used to the sandy beaches in Sydney. MikeofNorthumbria mentioned the pasty place in the little side street. That's The Filling Station. We were regulars there last year - the pasties were wonderful - but when we went to the reunion in February, they seemed a bit different - a little too much pastry. I hope that isn't a permanent change. We'll certainly give them another go this year just to find out. |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: Lady Policeman Date: 19 Jun 11 - 01:42 PM Sad news from Sidmouth! The Old Ship, in the pedestrian precinct, perhaps the oldest pub in Sidmouth, built around 1362 has been sold and is being turned into a Costa Coffee shop. How sad for a historic old building. If ever there was a building that so lent itself to being a pub it was the old Ship, with it's old stories of smugglers. As if we need another coffee shop! For the last few years we have slowly built up a lovely mixed session there with another session going on in the back bar.So another Fringe session bites the dust. Where next? |
Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: PercyBysshe Date: 19 Jun 11 - 04:30 AM Bonecruncher - I heard ages ago that I've been accepted as a steward, but have heard nothing since. |

Subject: RE: Sidmouth Folk Week 2011 - Who's going? From: Girl Friday Date: 18 Jun 11 - 01:15 PM T D L will be there with Ben. None of us have a season ticket this year, so will be in and around the fringe singarounds, and stages. Hoping for good weather again. |
