I'm very pleased to report that the Scottish singer, Chris Miles, from Kirkaldy in Fife, habituée of sessions in Fife, Edinburgh and elsewhere in Scotland, England and Ireland; she has a house near Tobercurry and attends many sessions and festivals in that area, and all over Ireland, has been awarded MBE for services to education and young people. (She was a Nursery School Headteacher and, until her recent retirement, an adviser to Fife County Council on Nursery Education.)

Congratulations Chris!
Chris made an unscheduled appearance at a memorable ballad session in the Conservative Club at Whitby last year with Sara Grey, Kevin Mitchell and Thomas McCarthy. They all deserved MBE's for that alone!

Matthew

The Courier (Dundee based) ran a wee story yesterday about Chris getting her MBE. Headline was "Matching MBEs for Fife twin sisters". Chris's twin sister Anne Murray got hers in 2000 for services to children with special needs. Anne sings with Sangsters, and I'm a proud husband and brother-in-law.

Congratulations, Chris! Though I wouldn't have been surprised if the MBE had been for services to Scottish music. Great voice, though it was long ago I had the pleasure to hear it.
