Subject: Grace Griffith & Susan Graham White From: GUEST,Lin Date: 13 Jun 11 - 12:22 AM In the late 1980's, Maryland folk singers, Grace Griffith & Susan Graham White were performing as a duo called, HAZLEWOOD. They recorded two cassette tapes in the 80's. One was called, "Legacy" and the other tape was called, "Wheel of Hope." These tapes were never released on CD and both singers went on to record as solo artists and release their own CD's. They did release a CD as a duo called, "Journey" which has songs from their early "Hazelwood" period. If anyone has the "Legacy" and "Wheel of Hope" cassettes and would be able to make me a copy of each one, I would pay a reasonable amount for them. Thank you. |
Subject: RE: Grace Griffith & Susan Graham White From: GUEST,Guest - Jay Date: 13 Jun 11 - 12:12 PM Hello: Wow! I remember Hazlewood and had the Legacy tape years ago. My ex-wife took most of my music and so I no longer have it. Not in touch with my ex-wife for over a decade and she wasn't even into folk music. :-( If I had it, or ever come across it I would be happy to make a copy for you. Hopefully another Mudcat reader will be able to help you. All the best. Jay P.S. Current wife is into folk music big time. :-) |

She has a fair amount on her plate right now. She has asked that I act as a go-between. Please e-mail me your contact info at my address: skivee1@aol.com. I'll pass the info on and she will make arrangements from there. |

Subject: RE: Grace Griffith & Susan Graham White From: GUEST,Lin Date: 17 Sep 15 - 12:23 AM I am still looking to find a copy of Hazlewood's tape called, "Wheel of Hope" Only released on cassette tape (sometime in the late 1980's I believe) by folk duo Hazlewood who were Grace Griffith & Susan Graham White. They were from Maryland. I used to have this tape but it was stolen with hundreds of other tapes & CD's I had in many boxes in about 2006. Horrible experience to have this happen. If anyone has an extra copy of this tape or could make me a copy I would gladly pay for you to do this. Never released on CD. I have some CDs by both of these singers released later after they broke up as a duo. So just looking for their cassette tape, "Wheel of Hope" right now. Thank you, Lin |
Subject: RE: Grace Griffith & Susan Graham White From: GUEST,Kelly Date: 19 Sep 15 - 01:01 AM To Guest Lin: Sorry, I don't have the cassette tape you are looking for by duo, Hazlewood, but just wanted to post a message that Grace Griffith is a very talented folk artist. I don't know Susan Graham White's solo releases but do have Grace's solo CDs. I think I read that she has a new CD out. Good luck to you in finding the "Wheel of Hope" cassette tape of Hazlewood's. It sounds like it means a lot to you to find it again. Hopefully someone on Mudcatt who has it will post a message for you. Sorry for your loss of losing so many CD's& tapes in the theft you mentioned. I know that must have been really hard to deal with so much of your music lost in that way. |

my mother and I are trying to contact the user Lin from Mudcat, because of a cassette by the folk duo Hazlewood. https://mudcat.org/thread.cfm?threadid=138488&messages=12 We'd like to identify an unknown folk song which is likely from that cassette. This is the song we're looking for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbiRn12vBEg Do you maybe recognize this song or do you happen to know Lin's email address? Greetings from Germany Marcel We don't give out email addresses of members, but we are willing for forward emails if we have the person's address. But in this case, Lin was a guest, so we have no record of her contact information. Link fixed - the un-Joe |
Subject: ADD: Light the Lanterns From: Joe Offer Date: 14 Sep 20 - 12:33 PM A Google search for crazy ladies in gingergread houses brought up these lyrics. Can anybody identify the song and tell us about it? "Light The Lanterns" She was born on a magic island There's a certain mythology I was already on the outside I wanted to be what I wanted to be She took me to illumination night; To pass on a legacy Crazy ladies in gingerbread houses Light the lanterns for the shipwrecked sailors Celebrate the homecoming Celebrate the moment when The will to live collides with love Lights the lanterns, everyone And pray that the rain won't come She left me with Grace the next year She went away, I don't know where Grace got drunk in a Chinese restaurant So all I saw were the lights extinguishing I'm going back on Illumination Night To see if I can light the lights Crazy ladies in gingerbread houses Light the lanterns for the shipwrecked sailors Celebrate the homecoming source: https://beelyrics.net/music/40152-unknown-artist/5131970-light-the-lanterns-lyrics.html This page speculates that the song is about the Oak Bluffs area of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts: |

Subject: RE: Grace Griffith & Susan Graham White From: GUEST,BSP Date: 21 Sep 20 - 02:12 PM 9 years later it has been delivered... Enjoy Wheel Of Hope! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZJiO4UxZ8E Regarding Legacy, I am one among a large internet project that searches for unknown/lost songs, songs without identities, etc. We are almost certain that the following song (the "Light the Lanterns" song mentioned by Joe above) is infact the title track from Legacy. If anyone is able to confirm this or provide Legacy, any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbiRn12vBEg |

Subject: RE: Grace Griffith & Susan Graham White From: GUEST,BSP Date: 05 Feb 21 - 10:35 AM The mysterious "Light the Lanterns" song was confirmed to not be Legacy by Hazlewood by Susan herself. Susan also said that several old Hazlewood tracks will be available on CDBaby soon. We have not spoken with Grace yet as far as I know. |
