Subject: Lyr Req: Brownie's Blues/Levee Breaks-David Head
From: AnneMC

Can anyone help with the rest of these lyrics or corrections to what I have?

Brownie's Blues/When the Levee Breaks, sung by David Head

Brownie's Blues

Water keep risin', the levee 's gonna break
Water keep risin', the levee 's gonna break
All of these people have no place to stay

Brownie, oh Brownie, what am I to do
Wake up Brownie, tell me what I should do
Ain't got no-one, to tell my troubles to

All last night, sat on the levee and moaned
All last night, sat on the levee and moaned
Thinking about my babe and my happy home

Water keep risin', the levee 's gonna break
Water keep risin', the levee 's gonna break
All of these people have no place to stay

Come down Mr Chernoff, look at the mess that we're in
Come on Chernoff, can't ya see the mess that we're in
Misery so deep, don't know where to begin

Starvin' dogs, bodies float in the street
Starvin' dogs, bodies float in the street
Dyin' of thirst, we ain't got nothing to eat

Water kept risin', levee broke today
Water kept risin', levee broke today
Big flood come, wash all the people away

Bush played the guitar, Went to a party or two
Yeah he played the guitar, went to a party or two
Time to get back to Crawford, there's more brush choppin' to do

He give to the rich and go out and start a war

Subject: Lyr Add: BROWNIE'S BLUES (WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS)
From: Jim Dixon
Date: 20 Jun 11 - 12:51 AM

I found a complete recording of this song at David Head's MySpace page. It has several additional verses:

BROWNIE'S BLUES (WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS)
As sung by David Head

Water keep risin'; the levee's gonna break.
Water keep risin'; the levee's gonna break.
All of these people have no place to stay.

Brownie1, oh Brownie, what am I to do?
Wake up, Brownie; tell me what I should do.
Ain't got no one to tell my troubles to.

All last night, sat on the levee and moaned.
All last night, sat on the levee and moaned,
Thinking about my babe and my happy home.

Water keep risin'; the levee's gonna break.
Water keep risin'; the levee's gonna break.
All of these people have no place to stay.

Come down, Mr Chertoff2; look at the mess that we're in.
Come on, Chertoff; can't ya see the mess that we're in?
Misery so deep, don't know where to begin.

Starvin' dogs, bodies float in the street.
Starvin' dogs, bodies float in the street.
Dyin' of thirst, we ain't got nothin' to eat.

Water kept risin', levee broke today.
Water kept risin', levee broke today.
Big flood come, wash all the people away.

[Harmonica break]

Some people dyin'; others have shoppin' to do.
Cheney3 bought a beach house; Rice4 shopped for Gucci shoes.
Now everyone's shoppin', tryin' to find an excuse.

Bush5 played the guitar, went to a party or two.
Yeah, he played the guitar, went to a party or two.
Time to get back to Crawford6; there's more brush choppin' to do.

He give to the rich; he go out and start a war.
Put out for the rich, start a nasty expensive war.
Got no bread left to give anything to the poor.

Let them eat cake; that's what your mama say.
Let them eat cake; that's what your mama say.
Call the police; haul your mama away.

Water kept risin', levee broke today.
Water kept risin', levee broke today.
Big flood come, wash all the people away.

Roll over, Beethoven; tell Tchaikovsky the news7 .
Roll over, Beethoven; tell Tchaikovsky the news.
Some inept president gave New Orleans the blues.
This incompetent president gave the Big Easy the screws.

Water kept risin', levee broke today.
Water kept risin', levee broke today.
Big flood come, washed New Orleans away.
Big water's come, washed the Big Easy away.

----
These are my guesses as to who is being referred to:
1. Michael D. Brown, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency
2. Michael Chertoff, Secretary of Homeland Security
3. Dick Cheney, Vice President
4. Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State
5. George W. Bush, President
6. Crawford, Texas, Bush's home
7. Line from Chuck Berry's song "Roll Over, Beethoven," also covered by the Beatles.

Thank you Jim, much appreciated and the references to named people in particular are a great help to someone outside of the US.

Do you think it is played in standard tuning?
