Subject: Seeking info - Annie Cosgrove Glace Bay From: GUEST,Ewan McVicar Date: 13 Jun 11 - 07:08 AM Miner's wife Annie Cosgrove and family emigrated to Glace Bay, Cape Breton, in the 1920s. She and some of her family returned to Newtongrange, Scotland, in I think the 1940s. A L Lloyd, Alan Lomax and Hamish Henderson all collected very fine vrsions of mining songs from her in the 1950s, and she told Lomax she had sung a lot in Glace Bay - at the old country club. She had eleven children, ten of them married. I've not been able to track down any family members in Scotland. I have been impressed at the references to Glace Bay and various songs on Mudcat threads, particularly from Ronnie MacEachran and others with pseudonyms like 'mesel'. Can anyone help with info or contacts for Cosgrove relatives in Nova Scotia? I think it likely some of Annie's offspring would have peeled off and stayed. Ewan |
