Subject: Stef Conner - New Music Video From: GUEST,Stef Conner Date: 16 Jun 11 - 06:15 AM Hi everyone, I'd love to know what you think of my new music video 'The Silver Dagger'. I learnt the tune from Martha Tilston when I was on tour in Australia with Rachel Unthank and the Winterset and Martha was supporting. I just felt such a strong connection with the lyrics I had to make my own arrangement. My style is quite jazzy so I wondered what folk music fans out there would make of it. Do you think it suits the song? The Silver Dagger xx Stef |

Subject: RE: Stef Conner - New Music Video From: michaelr Date: 16 Jun 11 - 06:15 PM To begin, I am not a folk purist, having perpetrated gleeful fusions for years. But I must say that - to me - this misses the mark. By flattening out the melody to the point where it's just about a one-chord song, you've in effect killed the beauty of the tune. And you don't make up for that by doing anything "equally interesting but different" with it, if you get my drift. Sorry, it just doesn't appeal to me. But by all means, keep playing and exploring ways to rejuvenate the old songs. Cheers, Michael |
