Subject: RE: Gibson banjo mandolin From: GUEST,Ray Date: 19 Jun 11 - 05:13 AM The best place to enquire is the Mandolin Cafe - you'll find a typical answer here - http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/showthread.php?73838-Gibson-Banjo-Mandolin&highlight=gibson+banjo - Whilst Gibson instruments in general command relatively high prices, you shouldn't necessarily expect this to apply to their mandolin banjos, particularly ones with warped necks which would cost a considerable amount to put into playable condition. |

Subject: RE: Gibson banjo mandolin From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 18 Jun 11 - 05:37 PM More details: no resonator, and it has the Gibson "open book" head stock. I can't find a picture of it anywhere on the web! |
Subject: Gibson banjo mandolin From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 18 Jun 11 - 05:08 PM Our good friend Harvey Tolman just stopped by with a beautiful old Gibson banjo mandolin, with the numbers 879 on the center rod in the back. I've searched the web and can't figure out how to date (or value) this instrument. Sadly, it was left under tension for the past 50 years or so, and the neck is bent somewhat. But what a lovely thing it is! Can anyone here point me to more information about it? Harvey is marvelling at the miracles of the internet, and thinks of me as a magician to be able to access it- help me out here, please! |
