Van, you should take some of the insurance money, buy a sawed-off shotgun, and put a sign on your door that reads "There is nothing in this house worth risking your life for." Tack that up next to a photograph of you holding your new shotgun. That way, when you get your new guitar (which I hope comes soon), no one will steal it.

Looks like you're being targeted. Perhaps before you buy a new one ( I reccomend Crafter) you might take a trip to your local Victim Support office, they give very good security advice on how to make your home more secure

Van, I see you're in the UK. I believe Collings Guitars are available. I'd look at those since I don't know that Blue Ridge or Gallaghers are available there. There's not much use in buying cheaper guitars, except the Blue Ridge, really, unless you just can't wait. There were a few good Yamahas years ago, and you likely had one, but they are not the same today. Only Blue Ridge competes.
    I've been most impressed lately with the Collings 12 fret dreadnaught and the Gallagher Doc Watson. Santa Cruz is close, and some are likely great.
    I have recently played lots of Martins and Gibsons and none really measure up unless they are prewar or shortly thereafter.
    Old, small Gibsons are popular with the Old Time and acoustic blues crowd, and they're good for those special sounds, but little else.

But first I think I'd move to new digs before I give the bastards any more guitars.

I bought several guitars at on-line auction, and resold the ones that I liked least at the folk festival, after a little fettling. I paid a bargain price for all of them, and recovered the price of the ones I resold.
But you have to be bold, and it didn't meet wifely praise at first. Or ever.

I've seen used FG180s in music stores for about $200. Does the FG140 have a laminated top?
If you're going for a second hand guitar, I've seen Harmony Sovereigns for under $500. These are great guitars, worth far more than they bring.

It all depends on hw much you - Or your Insurance Company - will be paying ! I personally would rather go for a Tanglewood than an entry level Martin , but its ALL down to what suits YOU !!

Go to one of the bigger festivals where there are shops/stalls from several instrument makers, and try some out. I would never dream of buying one without trying it out, and the recommendations of others are usually biased in favour of their own personal favourite.
To my mind, that model Yamaha is based on a D28, so you might start there.

I have been burgled three times in the last six weeks and among the items taken were my three guitars. One of them was my Yamaha FG140, a friend for over 40 years. Can anyone suggest a similar guitar from the current range that would match it. The insurance has agreed to cough up.
