Subject: RE: SongWriters - enter here From: George Papavgeris Date: 22 Jun 11 - 05:08 PM Being in Buckinghamshire, how about something along the lines of "It's a long way to Market Rasen?". The original tune is out of copyright since 3 years ago, too. |

Subject: RE: SongWriters - enter here From: Georgiansilver Date: 22 Jun 11 - 04:54 PM Sadly Dan I don't think your song would be eligible.. at least not without some tweaking to make it a song which loosely encompasses a 'Lincolnshire' theme..... Best wishes, Mike. |
Subject: RE: SongWriters - enter here From: Georgiansilver Date: 22 Jun 11 - 04:47 PM I had a song in the final ten in 2005.. came second in the finals at Spilsby theatre. If I can do it... anyone can!! Sorry about the quality of the recording.. it was taken from a cassette tape. Jane Kitchen singing "Ross Trawlers Return" |

Subject: SongWriters - enter here From: VinA Date: 22 Jun 11 - 04:31 PM As I promised in my initial message for my thread of 27th March, "Songwriters - win a folk song competition", I would be back to you when the competition opened with details on how to enter. Well, while I have been on holiday, the entry form has come online and can be downloaded from the website of The Heritage Trust of Lincolnshire. Remember to first read that Mudcat posting of 27th March. It gives you a lot of necessary info. A Berkshire man won the 2010 competition, so don't think that because you live many miles from Lincolnshire that this will count against you! Not so. Entry is free and you have (at the time of writing) nearly 12 weeks to write your song, record it and send it off to the address shown. Remember, major folk names have entered this prestigious competition (previously hosted by the BBC) in the past: names like John Conolly and Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher. Winning this would add some serious gravitas to your songwriting CV. |
