Just saw this on the Heritage Lincolnshire website. http://www.lincsheritage.org/news/article-content.php?id=146

You have nearly 12 weeks to write and record your song and send it to Tom Lane. The winner last year came from several counties away from Lincs, so geography need never be a precluding factor.

Write Your Lincolnshire Folk Song 2011

Write Your Lincolnshire Folk Song is designed to encourage the composition of new folk songs that are relevant to our county. The choice of subject is entirely yours but the song must have a Lincolnshire background or Lincolnshire feel.To comply with the spirit of the event the song must be new and must not have appeared previously on commercially available recordings. The songs must be original both in lyrics and melody and be under four minutes long.

A panel of distinguished judges will listen to all the entries received and a short-list will be drawn up. Ten songs will be selected to be performed live at a special finals night concert on Thursday 13th October 2011 where the judges will be present and select the winning song. The the songs short-listed will be recorded by BBC Lincolnshire for broadcast.

If you can write a good song but don't feel able to perform in public you can get someone else to sing your song on Finals Night, as long as they are the person/group that appears on the original recording.

Have a go - Write Your Lincolnshire Folk Song

All entries must be received by Heritage Lincolnshire no later than Friday 16th September 2011 and must be accompanied by a completed entry form.

New Folk Song - hmmm!
So presumably the judging will be by the general populace of Lincolnshire in about thirty or forty years time.Or is this just a song-writing competition by a different name sponsored by some Lincolnshire heritage organisation?

The belly of the hill is yellow,
The mist upon it lingers.
I feel I belong, I'm feeling mellow,
Cos' I have got six fingers.
