Subject: West Gallery Music at Lymm Festival From: Arcane Lag Date: 27 Jun 11 - 08:40 AM A West Gallery workshop and concert called "Murdered Anthems & Improper Psalms" will be held at Warburton (near Lymm Cheshire) next Saturday. All are welcome to come and sing music from eighteenth century English parish churches and nonconformist chapels including melancholic metrical psalms, exuberant fuguing tunes and Primitive Methodist rants, and Sheffield pub carols etc. A chance for those who enjoy harmony singing, and those who want to try it, to join in and raise the roof. |

Subject: RE: West Gallery Music at Lymm Festival From: John J Date: 27 Jun 11 - 12:31 PM 2nd July, afternoon: I'm up for this - can I buy a ticket on the door or do I need to buy in advance? JJ |
Subject: RE: West Gallery Music at Lymm Festival From: Matthew Edwards Date: 27 Jun 11 - 12:53 PM I'll be there too - just bought my tickets online. Thanks for the reminder Mr Arcane Lag. Are you sure "exuberant fuguing" is legal? Matthew |
Subject: RE: West Gallery Music at Lymm Festival From: Arcane Lag Date: 27 Jun 11 - 02:57 PM John The website says that tickets are available on the door for most events, so you should be ok. Otherwise we could stand outside the door and give them a few "Murdered shanties and Improper sea songs" Matthew Good on you Matthew, look forward to seeing you. I don't know of anything much more exuberant than "Hail Smiling Morn" and I think it's one that's on the list. Yvonne says that she's comming but only to the concert - unless you can persuade her otherwise. |

Subject: RE: West Gallery Music at Lymm Festival From: GUEST,Yvonne Date: 02 Jul 11 - 04:20 PM What a lovely afternoon of music it was. Though it did feel a bit odd singing 'While Shepperd's Watched' as the hot sun cracked the paving slabs outside. Thank you to The Grace Darling Singers. |
Subject: RE: West Gallery Music at Lymm Festival From: Arcane Lag Date: 02 Jul 11 - 06:51 PM Glad you could come Yvonne, it was good to see so many friends there. If we're asked back next year we'll be doing American music from the same period and tapping into the shape note tradition. See you on Thursday at Lymm Folk Club. Alan |
Subject: RE: West Gallery Music at Lymm Festival From: Matthew Edwards Date: 03 Jul 11 - 08:01 AM I really enjoyed the workshop and concert - the old church of St Werburgh's in Warburton made a lovely setting for the songs. I very much liked the settings of 'Dying Christian/Vital Spark' and 'The Christian's Goodnight'- but maybe that just shows what morbid tastes I've got! Thanks to Sally Drage and all the Grace Darling Singers for an excellent afternoon. Matthew |
Subject: RE: West Gallery Music at Lymm Festival From: John J Date: 03 Jul 11 - 08:32 AM I'll drink to that! JJ |
Subject: RE: West Gallery Music at Lymm Festival From: GUEST,AlanG at work Date: 04 Jul 11 - 06:03 AM But you'd drink to anything John! We were very pleased at the turnout. We had to send for extra chairs, the queued for half a mile - oops, sorry I slipped into the wrong song. There's been a lot of positive feedback, I've had quite a few PMs. Glad so many came and enjoyed it. Alan |
Subject: RE: West Gallery Music at Lymm Festival From: John J Date: 04 Jul 11 - 10:11 AM Ah, I've been rumbled. It was a good do, my voice really had a work-out. JJ |
