Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Richard Hayward 'Love in Ulster' From: GUEST,John Moulden Date: 28 Jun 11 - 05:58 PM There is little in the spoken poem that is obscure to me. However, I'll be away for several days and it would be best if you could transcribe what you think you hear, post it, and I'll tidy it up for you when I get back to the web. |

Sittin' up in Wullie's fiel' A wheen o' nights wi' Jinny Anderson Says I, "Thon house would do us," "Och Jack," says she, "I wouldn't marvel," An' a clatter o' talk fell between her an' me, An' the whole thing's fixed, an' the date to be, Boys, girls is a mystery to me, girls is quare! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Richard Hayward 'Love in Ulster' From: GUEST,Jim Clark poetryreincarnation youtube channe Date: 29 Jun 11 - 11:32 AM Thankyou very much Donal I just couldnt work out the first line, and several others although I love this humorous little poem. Are you from Ulster yourself is that how you deciphered it ? I would love to locate any other biographical info and photographs of Hayward if anybody knows if there is any more on the internet.Alas he was killed in 1964 in a car accident, but its a bit odd that there seems to be only one rather fuzzy photo of him on the internet. Anyway Thanks again to Donal for giving me a text to this delightful poem which I am just about to add to the notes of youtube animation. Kind Regards Jim Clark poetryreincarnations at youtube where great poets live again |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Richard Hayward 'Love in Ulster' From: GUEST,Ballyholme Date: 29 Jun 11 - 02:12 PM There does seem to be relatively little on the internet about Hayward but you can find at least one of his films (The Devil's Rock, 1938) on Youtube. It's particularly interesting because it includes the only known footage of the legendary piper and pipemaker, Richard O'Meally. |
