Subject: Lyr Req: The Marques From: GUEST,osprey Date: 03 Jul 11 - 09:39 AM The Marques was a ship which sank during a tall ships race. I heard the song once and really liked the sad melody. I'm looking for the words and chords. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Marques From: Dennis the Elder Date: 03 Jul 11 - 02:22 PM On June the 11th with the loss of 19 of its crew of 28. Only one body was recovered. I am trying to help, but am drawing a blank on the song you refer to. Where and when did you here it, can you narrow the search down a bit? |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Marques From: Ross Campbell Date: 03 Jul 11 - 03:32 PM The song "Marques" was written by Hughie Jones. There don't appear to be any lyrics on the web, but they are included in the songbook "Hughie's Ditty Bag", available for £3 + £1 p&p from the Chantey Cabin here:- Hughie Jones page at the Chantey Cabin where you will also find a couple of CDs that include the song - "Hughie's Ditty Bag" and "Hughie Jones with Bob Conroy "Live" at Snug Harbor", recorded in the New York Sailor's Home where William Doerflinger collected the immortal Leaving of Liverpool. I have a copy of Hughie's songbook somewhere. If he's happy for the lyrics to be listed here, I'll post them when I find it. Ross |
