Subject: BS: Has it really been that long?
From: Chip2447

I've dropped back by for a visit. Primarily in search of a blog entry idea or two I've returned to rummage about in my old posts trying to find some of my old gems, go ahead and laugh, I did.

Two things immediately caught my attention, I'm going on 4 years smoke free, yay me, and I've been a catter since March of 2001, holy crap! Has it really been that long?

Despite the fact that I'm not around much anymore the 'Cat" is still invaluable.

Thanks Max, and most of the Mudcatters et al.

Nice of you to pop in. It's my 10th Mudcat anniversary, as well.

Cheers,
Michael

I have only been a Catter for 2 years ~~ but I smoked my last smoke on 3 April 1975...

So have been smoke-free in total for longer than I smoked.

Wow, has it really been that long?

Still, as I have remarked before, time compresses the longer one lives ~~ my 15 years of schooldays were at least 20 times as long as my ½-C first marriage...

Michael, you and I quit smoking about the same time. The funny thing is that a few years earlier my son's pediatrician told me straight-faced, cigarette in hand that I should quit smoking if I wanted to see my son grown up. Not exactly a role model, he.

Man alive, every time my kids play with something that I remember being invented (Silly String, etc.) they look at me as if, since that has *always* been around, I must be older than the dinosaurs.

Here is a fun thing: On your next multiple-of-five birthday, do a little 5-year sample biography, like this:

This was the year I turned 50
5 years ago was the year I worked at The Daily Progress (thus technically achieving Charlottesville residency)
10 years ago ... 9/11 happened
15 years ago ... I became "management" rather than "staff"
20 years ago ... I finished my PhD work
25 years ago ... the Challenger blew up
30 years ago ... was the last year we lived in the Ivory Coast
35 years ago ... was the (US) Bicentennial
40 years ago ... was the year we lived in the States (see the Betty Ford thread for anecdote)
45 years ago ... was the first year we lived in Africa
50 years ago ... I was born

Well, *I* had fun with it!

John on Sunset Coast ~~ Nice to have that in common. Wouldn't ~ couldn't bear ~ touch it again, eh?

Your story reminds me of a diatribe by my late father, years ago. He was animadverting against young people who went to loud rock concerts & played their players at max-decibels ~~ there had just been a report on the effect this would have on their hearing in later life. "They were told they would go deaf," he said in horrified tones, "and they said they didn't care. Can you believe it!" he exclaimed, inhaling deeply on his cigarette...

Regards

~M~

Hiya Kat. I really hadn't realized that I've been around as long as that. And you were an old hat...scratch that, a veteran when I got here.

According to the archives, my first post was in March of 2001, I know that I hung around before that lurking, and actually made a few comments a s a guest prior to that.

My, my how time flies when your having fun, (or getting old.)
