Well, Friends, you might have noticed a certain lack of posting for the past few ... em... years. Well, hard at work reorganizing the family biz, Theatre 80. One of the big projects was to realize me da's dream of having a full licence for the tap room in the theater, the bar put in in 1922, when it was a speakeasy. The happy news is that we are now slinging booze, and soon will be hosting Sunday evening Celtic and folk nights... may even play sometimes myself.

We are featuring a wee drink I invented (I hope) and named after a wee girl from a great song, Jack Hagerty... The Molly Tucker, is a drink based in Rye and apples, which like the girl in the song, sometimes kicks.

Well... folks and folkies, drop in for a tune and a dram. By the way... we are also now presenting, in the theater, Silence, a musical comedy version of Silence of the Lambs... very funny.

All the best
Lorcan

PS After a bit of Mudcatting, I see the touchstone version is a wee bit off... so the drink, as of this writing is now renamed, the Annie Tucker... as per the origional flat river girl's name. Still can kick...

Just been looking at the website - very nice - will there be some photos later? (Couldn't see any on the 'photos' page).

Shame it's so far away - I have a sneaky liking for magic shows, even though I know how most of it's done!

Is that down on St. Mark's Place? I used to go to old movies there when I lived in NYC in the late 70s, early 80s. Was it your family then? Small world! That's the first time I ever saw the Wizard of Oz in color! I'd only seen it on the family black and white television before then.

InOBU-
Why not post the address. I remember where Theater 80 is, but I'm not sure how many others do.

Dear SRS and Dick, thanks, and yes, it is still us. My 91 year old mum is still upstairs keeping and eye on things... 80 Saint Marks Place, (8th street) between first and second ave.
Mudcatters say hello at the bar, it is usually me there pulling pints...
Cheers Lorcan

How will the Celtic / folk crowd recognize the name if you change Molly to Annie?! Touchstone and Mick Hanly both sing it as Molly. I see one of the Mudcat versions doesn't have a woman's name at all, but reads "My thoughts were on money"!

Seriously, congratulations and I hope to go to some of those Sunday events, among other things. Will there be singing as well as tunes? I know you do both.

Zhenya ( aka Harriet from Dempsey's, although I've not been there recently.)

Congrats, Lorcan!! I remember, well, the "before" pix you posted and the tales of cracking the old safe, etc. THIS is exciting! So happy for you. Which reminds me, did you ever get a replica made of the old harp you posted about?

Next time I get across the pond The Big Apple looks a good place to look in ! Last time I did anything there was in 1974 on my way home from Bermuda . Are you thinking of any 'Open Mic' evenings in the bar Lorcan ?
Best of luck with it mate

Great news, Lor, the old speakeasy returns! The atmosphere in 80 St Marks is really warm, now with the cup that cheers and a tune to sing, it'll be perfect. Can't wait to return and sit in at the session.

Best of luck, mate.

Greg

strangely enough a review of "Silent! The Musical" appeared in my local paper, the Sydney Morning Herald.

Admittedly it was taken from The New York Times
