Beaver, WV (right outside of Beckley) would be an hour commute. There is a Sleep Inn there. There are a number of motel chains in Beckley along the I-77/I-64 corridor. They aren't what I would call close, but you would have to decide what comprises a commutable distance. Camp Washington-Carver is remote, as is much of that part of West Virginia.   There may still be a few Mom&Pop motels but they won't have websites, and may be more bordellos or rough fishing camp type places (or both,) and only local knowledge will reveal their locations, even if they might be pretty clean, though basic, accommodations.

Good Luck.

fretless,

Copying Annie's response.

Summersville is all I know. Know better ideas. Not cheap there because of tourist trade and watch out for Greenbrier Resort may be having golf tourney same week which crams motels on the east side and maybe as far west as Summersville. Make reservations soon if the tourney is going on. I tried to catch a room on the road last time, and impossible.

fretless,

Sister Annie attends every year (tho maybe not this year since she is still recovering from her accident.) She has spent some time exploring that part of the state this past year and may have some suggestions. I've e-mailed her and will pass on any ideas or feedback when I hear from her.

fretless,
Google "motels near clifftop West Virginia"

I almost always camp, but for a couple of years I commuted from a motel in summersville.

Summersville has a decent selection of chain motels. I stayed at a Best Western (I think) that was OK. CAUTION. Summersville is a speed trap. It's open season on out-of-staters during Clifftop week.

Can't do the camping this year. Does anyone have experience with any motels/hotels in vicinity of the festival, or suggestions even without experience?
