Subject: Danae's Song From: George Papavgeris Date: 14 Jul 11 - 06:26 PM Or, to be precise, "Tis Danais". So, I wrote one in Greek at last. It had to be for a special person, and it was - I sang it to my sister's youngest at her wedding reception, an hour after I "gave her away" at the church, standing in for her (sadly deceased some years ago) father. Below the lyrics in translation http://folk4all.net/Danae's.mp3 There was a little girl that I knew years ago Who liked me to hold her foot so that she could go to sleep (really!) In the summer, from the sun, she was blacker than the swallows And her voice like a song, all day long (chorus) If my chin is trembling, don't pay attention to my tears They are the tears of others, who could not be here today Quite the opposite, I don't know how to hide my joy When I see you looking so beautiful, in the white wedding dress And I think you are a dream. The stabiliser wheels have been taken off your life, now And the childhood stories about Koutoukos are all in the past And poor me, I am struggling to keep up with you But on a day like this I could not be absent. Chorus… I wonder, in your dreams, did you foresee this moment? Did you see his face, and what was to happen? And (did you see) that from now on you'd be no longer alone, Hand in hand with your partner for the rest of your life? Chorus… |
