Dagnabbit. They've closed this site down due to problems with permissions.

I had some nice bits of music from them in the past.

sigh

I used Windows XP and a desktop, and I just printed "If You Love Me, Really Love Me" to play on the piano.

I'll cover up the English lyrics so it seems more French.

Seems to be OK now.

Slight problem, though:

"The sheet music could not be displayed!
You either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player."

I'm using Safari on iPad. Not the first time I've had this problem - and it's the latest version of the iPad. I'll have to try Firefox on my Linux PC upstairs.

I've not been overly impressed with iPad, useful though it is.

Looks to me like the server is down or the site has packed up. In either of these cases, then just one attempted connection might be one too many.

"The MySQL error was: Too many connections."

Perhaps if you just wait a while...

It's gone 404 for me, too. Perhaps it's a temporary problem and it will come back.

hey there
I found the wikifonia site and yea there is some pretty impressive lead sheets there, I have a jazz duo down here in TASMANIA and this site had some cool music , however I have tried recently to have a better look at their site and it has disappeared , gone ,all I get is that they are no longer on line , shame really because they had a really friendly site

How disappointing.
I read the title "Free lead sheets" and thought it might help replace the flashings on the roof of my local church.

I discovered this site back in June when I was looking for sheet music for some songs for a memorial service.   I love how easy it is to pick your key and then download and print the basic lyrics and score.
The only 'complaint' I have, if any, would be that the catalogue of songs is not larger than it is. But I think they keep adding new songs as people submit them.

Thanks for the tips, key. I'll remember that.

Thanks for the link. It's well worth a look. A few minor niggles like artists sorted alphabetically by first name and many groups listed under "T" for "The". I transposed "When I'm 64" from Db to C and found F chords shown as E#

Hey - thanks for that - I finally managed to get the lead sheet for "Ballad Of The Sad Young Men" by Fran Landesman & Tommy Wolf, which I've been searching for, on and off, for ages!

Hello, Jack. I'm glad to hear you got a new song from the site.

I can do clickies, I just didn't feel like it. I was in a hurry, being on my the way to visit friends and see the opera "Don Pasquale." It was odd to experience beautiful music hung upon a trivial plot.

I started this thread hoping to show that there are catters who actually care about music. I couldn't follow the recent scandal over trolls who impersonate facebookers who are pretending to be catters, but it was clear that our dear Max was getting a lot of flack he doesn't deserve.

Hmmm. Isn't the song called "Somewhere over the Rainbow'? Maybe you should have been looking under S.

Clickable:

http://wikifonia.org/browse

Seems okay but could be better - I just had a look for "Over The Rainbow", but you can't get things sorted by title so I had to use the search box. 595 hits, of which 2 were the right song.

I was able to search, transpose and download without logging in. What else can you do with a signup?

(BTW blue clickies like the above are much easier to make with a tabbed browser likw Firefox).

Recently I saw a reference to Wikifonia in a Mudcat thread, and I decided to check it out.

http://wikifonia.org/browse

For those who can read music (sticks and dots) this site is a wonderful source of new songs to play. Not only can you print lead sheets, you can transpose them to a new key before printing. Yowza!

My first new piece is "Falling in Love with Love" by Rodgers and Hart. I enjoy the way it straddles the gap between modern and traditional. What's more trad than a waltz? And the chords are old favorites - C, G, Dm, a coupla sevenths. Yet it's put together in an innovative way.

There are minor inconveniences - you have to sign up, and I still haven't found a way to change my complicated password. But I think it's worth it. (I maintain a free g-mail account for uses like this.)

I'll be away from my computer for a few days, but when I return I hope to read that a bunch of people have gone to Wikifonia and found pieces to play.
