Heya, Seed, nice ta meetcha. No, don't know Barney Brown, nor yet had the pleasure of browsing Copperfield's Books.

The session tent is a feature of the annual Celtic music festival in Sebastopol. A concertina player and some very fine fiddlers & guitar & bodhrans were jamming when I came to from my Tavern stupor. I was too shy to ask who they were...

There are workshop tents, too & an outdoor stage, an indoor stage & a dance tent, yeeha. At play were Duck Baker & Kieran Fahy, Tim O'Brien & Darrell Scott, Maura O'Connell, John Cunningham, Susan McKeown & Aidan Brennan, & a host of others, some local, some from the auld sod.

Tim & Darrell opened up a Saturday night concert. They had folk wandering in & out of their set - Sharon Shannon,Paddy Keenan, Sean Smyth, Maura O'Connell. And that was the first set - the second set was Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill who come every year and put their particular spell on us.

The festival goes all weekend (from Friday night thru Sunday night) and all the hotels, motels, bed & breakfast places, etc. are usually all sold out for it, so if you want to go next year, plan early. Makes a lovely weekend up on the Russian River and then all that wonderful music and then go eat like small barnyard animals at Negri's.

oh, there are vendors and crafts at the festival, too. And food. Douglas (mine) was gnawing on what I thought was a turkey leg, but now that I think about it, it did look awfully pink... my best eats vote goes to something called "Death & Taxes" - a reasonable substitute for The Black which is my favorite food and is very very good for you.

Wyowoman, I would sit in the dark with you and complain about lack of progress in guitar playing any day -- why we could compare slow fingers, wandering brains and distant frets and everything -- not that we would get much guitar playing done, but you can't have everything in this life --
yours, Peter T.

Hello everyone!

I'm all sappy. I was just at bbc resources gazing at your beautiful faces wondering who I was going to meet at FSGW. Sooo..I decided to come over and visit. I don't get much time to visit the Tavern, to my regret. bbc, please make me a Tanqueray and Tonic, no lime, please. I would also like to buy _gargoyle a drink if he will allow me to. I wish there was a picture of you at the resources, _gargoyle.

I stopped trying to learn to play guitar for a while, but I'm back at it. The chording's going well, but I have trouble with the strumming. I'm afraid to try picking yet. It's going to be awhile I'm afraid.

It's so good to see you all. Soo. what trouble are we getting into tonight. You can count me in.

Right Mick, down this pint in a hurry, you'll need it. Recent intelligence reports indicate that Alison has been working on her patented uillean squeeze hold in which she stuffs you under her arm and applies steady rhythmic pressure until you submit and sigh like a well tempered drone. It's a dangerous mission pal, but I think you're the man for the job. I'll be right here in your corner guarding your drink. In fact, perhaps I'll have one to keep yours from getting lonely. If we don't hear from Catspaw soon I'm for sending out the possum patrol. E.S.

Thank you for your commiseration and/or encouragement. I am trying to give me guitar at least a few minutes of my time each day (doesn't work out quite that way, but it's a goal...), so I AM seeing progress. Just sort of plodding along, though, and being the impatient sort, I want to see RESULTS!!!!!

Oh, my. Look at that Mick guy. Talk about seeing results. He must be really excited about this mud wrassling with the Fair One.

Has anyone had the nerve to tell him they've replaced the mud with cement to fill in the pool? Something about liability concerns...

Oh, goodness. I think he's gotten himself a wee bit stuck. Anyone got a jack hammer we could borrow before the cement sets up too well?

Phew, the new location took a bit of finding, it's further than ever from the Neil Young Center. I was a bit wobbly from my flight home from Greece (watching the plane I was to return on make 4 attempts at landing on a short runway hemmed in by sea, mountain and Turkish airspace!), trying not to spill my hand luggage. When I got to the Mudcat Village the village idiot (or one of them) told me to turn left at the boarded up "Kazoos-R-Us" and then the Psudonym Pedlar took the Zimmer off me and my magic beans in part exchange for the Skiffler. So here we are, help yourselves to the Samos Ouzo and the assorted excellent Samian wines, I gave them serious attention in the cause of research. Stin Y Yassas. What's been going on while I've been away? Were those flamingoes? Is that concrete in the jello pool? Ti Krima! Po Po Po!

poet - men's room is to the right, ladies to the left and the "little possums room" is the second bush to the left out the back door.

Jeeb - this is the "social thread" for the Mudcat Forum. You can see some of the previous madness if you use the links so nicely posted in the box above.

try for the forum itself

url:http://www.mudcat.org/threads.cfm

welcome. the mystical-magical-anything-with-caffiene-in-it machine is that bright shiny brass thingie with all the buttons and levers at the end of the bar. It's self serve. I think the bar itself is on the honor system at the moment. Food appears on occasion, and the barbecue pit is out THAT door, the time-travel wish fullfilment center is through THAT door. Music welcome anytime.

Jeeb, there are any number of threads that explain what goes on here, but as a long time regular it is worth saying that no one really knows what goes on here. You sort of need to go with the drunkenness, especially in this virtual tavern. There are all sorts of personal references that go back a long time. One solution which you might try is to put in all kinds of obscure references yourself, and everyone will think that it is about them, and that there was a thread about it some time ago, and so on. You will be already part of the madness. Catspaw (for example) makes up all these people who are supposedly interested in him, so that many threads will be about him; I generate obscure quotations and stuff to cover my tracks; bbc works for the FBI 10 Most Wanted List; Rick Fielding is obsessed with the proper fingering of the G chord; Joe Offer is trying to put katlaughing back behind the mystic veil, and so on and so on. It changes every day, except for Big Mick's obsession with the fair alison. That remains constant. It makes for a long, but very fulfilling day.
yours, Peter T.

Good day all! Just thought I might pop in for a drink or two, a large rum pleas bartender!

Jeeb, this is a place where you can meet old friends, and get to know new ones, in a warm, friendly, and totally lunatic atmosphere. I recommend you don't ask how it works, just enjoy the fact that it does, somethings are best not studied to close, as often, when examined they loose their magic. At the mudcat you will find some very careing and helpful people, this is where some let down their hair.

Welcome to the tavern Jeeb and join us for a drink.

Just grab the tiple that says Ziff when you arrive....Cletus and Paw are out there now...They were here playing sink the Cheerios and lighting farts when I came in the other night. I was truly pissed and suggested they both cut the shit...and wouldn't you know it, they were arrested an hour later about a mile out of town while in a dairy barn slicing up cowpies.........oh well.........I'll go a round for everyone on the "PC" and "Hummer" threads today........Leej, crack out that last gallon of Shine...not the crap from the Peterbilt radiator that Paw and Clete brewed........say, How's Bert...anybody heard? He dropped like a sack of spuds after he drank that swill....and those stomach pumps take it out of you..........say, Cleigh went to a picnic with us the other day...big foster family outing.......little beggar ate my plate of food too...got pictures to prove it............So where's Jeri? New job slowing her down?.........Keep Mian away from the flamingos........Let's get the wrasslin' started........Send kat over to my table in case she comes in......had a tough day.................I need to take her back to our litterbox, out in the garden for some faerie communing............Damn but this is pure smoothness.........thanks Beebs....................

And Jeeb was hoping to make some sense of it all...

I think the only way to make sense of the Tavern thread, among many others, is just to practice a Zen-like surrender. Let waves of silliness wash over you, breathe in through your nose (trying to ignore the half-ignited flatulence of which Catspaw spake), out through your mouth, and just become one with it all.

Or run like the wind and thank your licky stars you escaped....

Oh yeah, I started using the database to look up the words to some songs I half-remembered, then started reading the threads, found the directions to the Tavern, and here I am....Thanks for the invite, but I don't play an instrument. Oh, of course I sing, mostly Karaoke of late, and I sing my daughter to sleep at night. Never been to any of the gatherings I have heard about here and in the Cafe; last time I was at something similar was an SCA convention in Germany mumbleteen years ago. Good coffee! NON-joking section? I don't think we have one....maybe that will be an addition the next time we translocate...

Though the Tavern without humour....*shudder* horrid thought.

Still - to each his own, and if anywhere, this should be an inclusive spot....maybe we could just offer "joke filters"? Though we weren't able to fit a content filter over "the door", so perhaps it isn't possible.

Also, the company is good, though somewhat bizarre & we are open in every time zone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Jeri, congrats on starting that new job! This one's on me!

I think I might just sit here in the corner (though not the same one as Gargoyle) and watch the world go by for a while. I'm not sure I really understand what's going on - but I'd like to meet some of the famous names like 'Spaw and Katlaughing.

a man walkes into a bar with a duck on his head the barman said "what can I get you"

the duck says "something to get this man off my bottom
