Subject: Cherry Hinton Folk Club - is it moving?
From: Richard from Liverpool

Just a quick question for anybody in Cambridge or the nearby area who might be in the know. The Cherry Hinton Folk Club at The Unicorn pub ran, if I understand correctly, every 3rd Wednesday of the month. However, The Unicorn has now shut (another local pub bites the dust...) Does anybody know if the folk club has relocated to another venue, or if it's stopping (permanently or temporarily?)

I don't think I ever actually got out there, although it is pretty close to where I stay when I'm down in East Anglia.

Bad news! Where I am going to have breakfast during the festival? The Red Lion just isn't in the same league.

Just checked the last lot of Mardles magazine club listings and there's no mention of the club, so I think it's expired.

I've also emailed somebody who was involved in the running of it (I saw them last night; pity I didn't see this thread earlier...), so may have a more definitive/detailed answer shortly.

Cherry Hinton folk club session is now at Fulbourn Hospital Sports & Social Club this Thursday 21st (as the Unicorn pub. is currently shut !), hopefully there'll be more beer at Fulbourn S&S!

Reply (in part) to my email, confirming George's answer:

The Cherry Hinton Folk Club has now moved to The Fulbourn Hospital Social club and changed its day to the third Thursday of each month.  The club can be found by taking the second opening on left(marked as the Capital Park) on the Fulbourn Road after the roundabout and take an immediate right.  There is plenty of parking and the drinks are cheaper and they would run out of beer as we have experienced at the Unicorn over the last year.   However, because it is a private club a fee of £1 would be charged to non-members or for the princely annual sum of £12 (£6 concessions)  you can become a member and have access to all the facilities.
The unicorn has closed - though we were led to believe that a temporary landlord would be taking over from the previous landlady, but then we noticed the pub was boarded up! and shortly after read in the paper that it wasn't the only one in Cambridge area to close. Such is the demise of local pubs.
