We are having a family seaside holiday before the festival, and I suppose there are people in town early sorting things out and setting up.
Where do they go to relax. Are there sessions etc. in the evenings.

You would think a week would be enough but we're gluttons.

In the week before Whitby, went Mo bright and clear
But the Plough it was quiet and so was the Pier
She went out to the Station to gather fine tunes
But the Fleece wouldn't give her no sessions.

The preceeding weekend is Regatta weekend, which includes the notorious "Black Eyed Monday".

Friday - Bay Folk Club at the Dolphin RHB
Saturday - White Hart, Mickleby
Sunday - Station
Monday - Fleece
Tuesday - Station (I believe)
Wednesday - Fleece
Thursday Folk Club at the Friendship Rowing Club

What is "Black Eyed Monday"?
What sort of time do things get going at that marvellous list?

Black Eyed Monday is when the local, and visiting, youth decide it would really rather funny to knock seven shades out of each other, normally this is limited to the west side where the fun fair is held. Town is EXREMELY busy that weekend and keep hold of your wallet/purse as we get some delightful people who it is a fantastic wheeze to borrow them on a permenant basis.

All sessions start about 9, the station is supposed to start at 8.30 and the Folk Club at the Friendship starts at 9 but it preceded by a practice session for fiddle, whistle, box etc etc

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 12th, 13th & 14th August are Saltburn Folk Festival.

If you try going to the White Hart at Mickleby on the Saturday, you'll be disappointed as we'll all be at Saltburn. The White Hart Folk club host the Saturday night Festival Folk Club.

I've just looked on the Regatta website. It give details of some of the events and where to buy a programme when we get there. That doesn't help much in telling us whats on when on the Saturday, so that we can get there in time for anything we want to see. Anyone local got a programme?
At least the vintage cars are Sun, so SIL won't miss them.
