Subject: All new Albion Band From: Bonzo3legs Date: 20 Jul 11 - 02:12 PM http://www.folkradio.co.uk/2011/07/announcing-an-all-new-albion-band Fantastic news, looking forward to seeing them later this year. |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: Bonzo3legs Date: 20 Jul 11 - 05:29 PM No tour details yet though. |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: Paul Davenport Date: 21 Jul 11 - 10:52 AM Actually, with Ashley watching from the shadows it's not completely 'all new'. I suspect there will be smiles of recognition when they debut…if it was all new it'd have a different name surely? |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: Vic Smith Date: 21 Jul 11 - 10:55 AM Why are the younger generation being introduced? There are still three members of the older generation of performers that have not been members of the Albion Band yet. |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: Bonzo3legs Date: 21 Jul 11 - 11:45 AM "if it was all new it'd have a different name surely?" Why "surely"? The Albion Band is a way of playing I think Ashley said during the Albion Band documentary - I'll need to check. |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: theleveller Date: 21 Jul 11 - 11:52 AM I think it was Phil Beer who said that the Albion Band was the folk equivalent of jury service. |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: GUEST,Phil B Date: 21 Jul 11 - 12:05 PM Can't claim to have originated that one unfortunately. Good luck to the new venture though. I like the idea of a generational new version of the band and Blair is a very impressive singer, writer and performer. Not a bad actor as well!! |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: GUEST,MC Fat Date: 21 Jul 11 - 12:39 PM looks a talented line up with Blair, Gavin Davenport ang Katrina Gilmour |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: GUEST,Ted Crum (Steamchicken) Date: 22 Jul 11 - 04:39 AM Watch out for Tim Yates too: he is bass player in the QP, and like the rest of them is far too talented for one so young! Good luck, and I look forward to hearing them. |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: theleveller Date: 22 Jul 11 - 06:04 AM "Can't claim to have originated that one unfortunately." Sorry, Phil - can't remember who it was. Nice quote, though. |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: Bonzo3legs Date: 22 Jul 11 - 09:19 AM It wasn't Howard Evans was it, I seem to remember him muttering something like that at the Half Moon Putney during a Home Service gig! |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: theleveller Date: 22 Jul 11 - 09:41 AM I've a feeling now that it might have been Tam himself. |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: GUEST,Phil B Date: 22 Jul 11 - 10:19 AM I think you're right. I could well have been JT. I've repeated it on many occasions so you may have possibly heard it from me. |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: theleveller Date: 22 Jul 11 - 12:19 PM Maybe Phil, or it might have come from Ray Hearne (I'll ask him). "the Half Moon Putney" Ah yes, the good old Half Moon. Putney used to be a stamping ground of mine in the late 60s/early 70s, with a bunch of mates that included singer/songwriters Kevin Coyne and Nick Cudworth who were then in a band called Siren. As well as the Half Moon we'd drink in The Bricklayer's Arms and go for a sing with Kevin and Nick around the piano in the Star and Garter. Happy days! |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: GUEST,davemc Date: 22 Jul 11 - 03:06 PM Wonder why those talented performers want to be associated with the Albion Band name rather than a new moniker? They're each pretty much established on the scene and the Albion Band brand has been coasting for a while... |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: GUEST, topsie Date: 22 Jul 11 - 06:15 PM Could be they wanted to bring back the 'Albionettes'? |
Subject: RE: All new Albion Band From: Bonzo3legs Date: 23 Jul 11 - 05:49 AM Now that was great dance team. The morris dance from the Return of the Compleat Dancing Master show was one of the best I have ever seen. |
