Are there any? I am helping a bride find an appropriate song she might sing to her (soon-to-be) husband on their wedding day. I suppose the words to Irish Wedding Song could be changed to fit, but she wants something "older"/more traditional...

I've come across lots of songs reading through the posts at Mudcat for Irish Wedding songs from the past 3 years only to find alot of disappointment. Many lovely songs about love/romance end with tragedy or lost love or warn against love/marriage in the end......or they are full of other peoples' names...

Can anyone help? Titles a must--lyrics would be great--source information (book titles, ISBN numbers) for the music is a plus.

This is needed in a hurry--the wedding is 2 weeks away.

The song "So Like Your Song And You" is gorgeous, Irish, and about as happy and romantic a love song as you'd ever want to hear. The tune is the same as "The Singing Bird." The words and tune are both published in Sam Henry's book, "Songs of the People". I have a copy of the song, and would send it to you pronto if you e-mail me with your address. Have a go at "Never be the sun" by Donagh Long. Dolores Keane sings it beautifully on the album "Solid ground" DARACD 065, or "Best of D. Keane" TORTECD 206.

you could try "the lark in the clear air" by samuel ferguson.lyrics and music are in " folk songs of england ireland scotland and wales by michael cole published bywarner brothersm publications inc. Normally sung by a man it could be easily adapted. Just two verses but very beautiful.

I second Keith Aplin's suggestion of "The Lark in the Clear Air" - I think it is also in Burl Ives's Irish Songbook but the Cole book is in print from Warner's and more readily available. A lovely song, in English, easily learned.

I wish I knew how to give you the tune. I haven't a clue about making up the blue clicky things, or I'd've done it. But there are lots of samples out there of Dolores Keane's album Solid Ground if you can find them.
