Subject: RE: Tech: Invited & tried google+ instead of Facebook? From: John MacKenzie Date: 25 Jul 11 - 02:32 PM Well as I said in another thread G-Mail was the most common addy used by spammers on my web site. So I banned it. I'm not likely to get involved in anything much to do with Google. They're better than Microsoft, but that's not saying a lot. MS haven't set the bar very high! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Invited & tried google+ instead of Facebook? From: EBarnacle Date: 25 Jul 11 - 02:17 PM I am really averse to anything Google. They are notorious for data mining anything that passes through any of their portals. There are also questions about their willingness to protect your data once they have it. Others may also be doing this but they are not as out there about it. No thank you. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Invited & tried google+ instead of Facebook? From: PoppaGator Date: 25 Jul 11 - 02:02 PM One of my sons is in the Beta group. I'm in no hurry to start fooling with anything new, but I'm sure that eventually I will learn more about it and perhaps opt in when I can... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Invited & tried google+ instead of Facebook? From: GUEST,Mary Katherine, sans cookie Date: 25 Jul 11 - 12:49 PM So it requires that one establish a separate Google email address in order to use it?? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Invited & tried google+ instead of Facebook? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 24 Jul 11 - 07:39 PM I can also send invites to Google+, so a PM to me with your email (you'll only get email notification of posts unless you have a gmail account) and I can send you one. SRS |
Subject: RE: Tech: Invited & tried google+ instead of Facebook? From: DrugCrazed Date: 24 Jul 11 - 02:06 PM It's like Twitter and Facebook. It'll take some time before people realise how to use it. I'm in the beta but don't really use it. FB and Twitter are both attached to my browser, G+ isn't. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Invited & tried google+ instead of Facebook? From: Arthur_itus Date: 24 Jul 11 - 01:13 PM It looks and feel like Facebook, but has much better control on which group you put somebody in. They can't see anybody except for the people in their group. So for example if I put my wife and daughters in the family group. and they are friends with each other, we can all chat with each other and nobody else can see what we post. So if I created a Folk group. Then I can see what people in that group post, but the other people can only see what they post, if they are friends with them. They cannot see what is posted in any other group. Love it. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Invited & tried google+ instead of Facebook? From: Max Date: 24 Jul 11 - 03:55 AM Tested the group video thing tonight with Kevn. They call it a "hangout". Promising stuff, very clear and sharp. I'm hearing only up to 6 at a time. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Invited & tried google+ instead of Facebook? From: Arthur_itus Date: 24 Jul 11 - 03:50 AM Yes you need to be invited as it's still in it's trial run. I got invited, but I was told that there were no more invites for the moment. I may well switch to it though. I think it's more secure and you can skype with a group of people. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Invited & tried google+ instead of Facebook? From: ragdall Date: 24 Jul 11 - 03:08 AM It does look interesting. I gather we'd need to be invited by someone who is using it, though? rags |
