Subject: RE: Sessions in North Wales. From: FreddyHeadey Date: 28 Sep 17 - 11:02 AM I wonder if the thread title could lose the " in August " ? |
Subject: RE: Sessions in North Wales in August? From: Mo the caller Date: 28 Sep 17 - 09:56 AM That was a reply to Mr Red We've turned up at pubs, instruments in hand, for our regular session, to find them, shut, dark and silent. |

Subject: RE: Sessions in North Wales in August? From: GUEST Date: 28 Sep 17 - 06:35 AM I'm way to far out of touch to know if that Llandudno one still runs although I was one of the original participants... When I first became aware of Mick Tem's site. The Llanduno/Conwy area was unnoticeably out and for a short wile (until I moved to Norfolk, around 17 years ago!) tried to keep him informed. I don't know if anyone does that now but do believe it is impossible to keep track from S Wales without someone doing more than say notifying of a new venue - places close and move and that sort of stuff tends to get missed. |
Subject: RE: Sessions in North Wales in August? From: Mr Red Date: 28 Sep 17 - 03:40 AM Folk Wales Thurs Llandudno (Sess) but I do notice some entries are way out-of-date and there is no datestamp on any of them. I do tell Mick when I spot errors, but he lists in English areas where I have first hand knowledge. "The Session" stuff can linger forever so see if there is a date/update on an entry. Long ag I found there were three fact that were just as essential to the place/town/frequency and they were telephone, postcode and when the data were unequivocally true! Could I point to Schrödinger's Mudcat? 1) The session exists and not exists until you arrive at the pub! 2) Posts exists and not exists until you check it was your post that sent the thread to the top. (I didn't last night @10pm GMT+1) |

Subject: RE: Sessions in North Wales in August? From: Rob Naylor Date: 03 Aug 11 - 08:17 AM Hmmm, they don't say anything about music on their web site: Douglas Arms Bethesda so maybe it's gone the way of £.s.d :-( |
Subject: RE: Sessions in North Wales in August? From: Rob Naylor Date: 03 Aug 11 - 08:12 AM There used to be a good session at the Douglas Arms in Bethesda, but I was last there about 6 years ago (listening only at that time!) so not sure if it's still going. I'm reliably informed that the custom they had of asking for your money in pre-decimal coinage is now dead, which is a shame...I used to like being asked for, say "five pounds and eight shillings" followed immediately in an undertone by "five pounds forty". The other thing they had there is a full-size snooker table with facilities for playing "snooker-plus"....the extended snooker game with an orange ball worth 8 points and a purple one worth 10. Not sure they still have that either, as apparently no-one makes the orange and purple balls any more, but it was still being played when I was last there. Worth phoning them re the session. |
Subject: RE: Sessions in North Wales in August? From: mikesamwild Date: 03 Aug 11 - 05:49 AM There's a Friday night session in Bangor , Irish mainly. Look on The Session site. |
Subject: RE: Sessions in North Wales in August? From: Edain Date: 03 Aug 11 - 05:47 AM There's an Open Mic night at the Tap and Spile in Bangor on the 18th. It's not specifically folk, but since the students have gone for the summer it does tend to lean that way, certainly the last one was very folkie. |
Subject: Sessions in North Wales in August? From: richdfolksinger Date: 03 Aug 11 - 05:10 AM I'm off with my fiddle-playing companion for a fortnight's camping in and around Snowdonia, starting Mon 8th August. Anyone know know of any good sessions that take place in the area, or indeed any upcoming gigs? |
