Does anyone know if there are any surviving recordings of Ramox & who they are/were?

I think this thread got deleted by mistake. Somebody had information on Ramox they wanted to post, so I've reopened the thread.

There was an LP called 'Best of Breeds' - on Highway Records, (I think, can't find it for the minute..) and a single taken from the album. That was the only recording unless there are any unofficial live ones anywhere. Late 70s early 80s they were a duo, Dave Holmes and John Storer, but the album also featured Nigel Corbett on violin and Nigel Jardine on drums, both excellent musicians. Dave Holmes can still be found playing in the Sheffield area.

Thanks for the information.
No luck in tracing a copy or as yet, Dave Holmes, to see if he has any himself but hopefully i will get a lead on that (A friend of mine is checking for John Storer up north).
I hope more come to light.
Many thanks for your trouble

I knew Dave and John in Chesterfield in the early eighties. I believe they stopped playing together in about eighty-two or eighty-three. Dave was the lead singer and could play guitar in several tunings. John used to play bass and keyboard if I recall correctly. They were both nice blokes and they did some good harmonies. I expect my old mate Martin Ball would know what they are up to now. He is still active around that area.

I may get to see him then! My brother Jem lives there - and I go to visit him from time to time.

I knew them quite well in the early 80s, and still have a copy of "Best of Breeds". They were a trio - John, Dave and Nigel Corbett - Nigel Jardine only joined them for recordings.

I have a couple of the albums Best of Breeds our attic.
Never thought they could become collectors items !
Would be great to meet up with the guys again and spin a yarn or two.

A while since I last saw Geordie Dave. I do have a tape of a set they did at a folk club in North Notts as a duo somewhere, but can't seem to put my finger on it. I recorded the gig and interviewed them for a radio show we syndicated to hospital and university radio stations around the early '80s.

I'll see if I can find it. My mate Mitch said it was a good job Dave came from around Durham, hence the "ox" part. If he had paired up with a bloke from Kerrymuir instead of Derby, it wouldn't have been Ramox but Ballox. (A snippet from the introduction of the set.)

Wow there's a name from back when. What stalwarts they were in whatever that boozer was at Crewe and Nantwich keeping things going no matter what - but you couldn't put that on a record

Dave Holmes is still gigging in Sheffield. He was doing a popular session at the Bath Hotel (think it was a Monday night) but that might have moved to the Red Deer
