Can I clarify (without prejudice) for those looking in from afar.

Newport Folk Club has indeed moved as stated.

However, some regulars chose not to move with the club and have continued in the old venue as the Lyceum Folk Club .

Both clubs are thriving.

Splott Man

I always enjoyed Newport FC when I visited South Wales for my work. Haven't been for some time as I've changed my job (and it's a bit of a trek from Lncashire!), so I'd just like to wish you all good luck in your new home.

You believe you were told, or you were told?

I believe (I was told) that there is a folk evening of some sort at the original venue, same night. The clientele split.

Thank you. I at first thought USA where there are over 50 towns or cities named Newport. I appreciate the clarification. That would then be the Newport mentioned in the poem by Idris Davis, later set to music by Seeger?
There's also several in the UK.
Newport Pembrokeshire
Newport Isle of Wight
Newport Shropshire
Newport Essex
Newport Gloucestershire
Newport Monmouth/Gwent (this is the one they mean!)
And yes, Newport Mon. is the one meant in "Bells of Rhymney"

Cheers
Nigel

That's the Newport - the leading one, as far as I am concerned. My mother taught at High Cross School for many years.

Just in case there is anyone who doesn't know, Newport Folk Club moved to new premises in March. We are now at the Fugitives Athletic Club at High Cross in Newport just off junction 27 of the M4 and the new place is great. It has its own parking and it's on the level (no stairs to climb) and the room is bigger and lighter. It operates every Thursday come rain or shine.
