I was just looking at the Village Music Project site. In this tunebook:

Goulding: 24 Country Dances for the year 1808

there is a tune called "Gas Lights".

The composer or dancemaster who wrote that was quick off the mark. According to this:

http://www.localhistory.scit.wlv.ac.uk/articles/Gas/Distribution.htm

gas lighting arrived in London in 1805, first used to light the London home of the Prince of Wales (later George IV) and the first street to be lit by gas was Pall Mall in 1807.

Were any other fuels commemorated by topical music that fast?

Are you saying that the fuel did not exist before 1805. I sincerely doubt that.
