A friend asked me to make a french adaptation of "Fortune come home year" by Eric Kendell; This song is on a mini-tape recorded in Grand-Bank for the Fortune come home year committee (Burin peninsula NL - 1996).

But before translating the lyrics, I must have them. Unfortunately I don't understand a part of the english words of this song. Do somebody can help me about those lyrics. The song is probably not well-known but I can send a digital copy by email to anyone who agree to help me. Thanks.

Pascal (in St-Pierre & Miquelon)

Fortune 'Come Home' Year

This little town of Fortune, our home here by the sea
We welcome you one and all dear friends and your family
We know you will enjoy yourself while you're staying for a while
Come celebrate the [one word missing] this year in this little town

Chorus:
Come one and all enjoy yourself it's the gateway to St-Pierre
And stop off at Charlie's Bar and have yourself a beer
Just like it was in days gone by when The Twisters they played here
We welcome you one and all for the Fortune come home year

You'll find the people friendly moved in from everywhere
Building off this little town for many long years
You're welcome to every home, they won't turn you away
In this little town of ours, Cabot called Fortune Bay

Ch

It's nice to see your smiling face and hear your voice again
Hug you tight and shake your hand the way it always been
There's nothing so wonderful like music and friends
We welcome you one and all to this town once again

Ch

*The lyrics still require the author's name. However, rather than they get lost, I though storing them on Mudcat would at least preserve them.

**Please note that the transcription is accurate except for the missing word of stanza 1, line 4.

This is a terrific song. It sounds like back home in Wisconsin, almost. I hope this works.

999, could [one word missing] be "because"? Seems like there's another word at the end of that line.

"the [one word missing] this year"

Maybe it's "the solstice here"

I'm writing an e-mail to the author (I hope). I'll get back when/if.

I think it's "Come celebrate the solstice here in this little town of mine." "Mine" sort of trails off at the end, and it could be something else that almost sorta rhymes with "while", I can't think what. The "solstice here" actually sounds like "falls this year" but that doesn't make sense.

"Come celebrate the solstice here in this little town of mine."

Just listened again to the mp3, and yes, 'of mine' should have been there at the end of stanza 1, line 4. Thanks, Jeri.
