Did the BBC ever bring this out on cd? if not they should, it is a fine advert for traditional folk song. Just a thought! Watched the copy I made last evening again what a great concert.

They were 'Fantastic' at the late night concert at Whitby on tuesday, their banter and singing had the Met ballroom rocking.

I've been following them at Whitby FF this week and everything they've done has been performed absolutely SPLENDIDLY to universally full houses.
I know they're also at Shrewsbury and Fylde but what's all this I'm hearing about the main hall at the Gateshead Sage (next March, I think) - anyone got any more details?

BBC2 give out Gongs for less! Well done the Wilson Family, Kathryn Tickell, June Tabor and the Northern Synfonia for a fine piece of work.

I am really pleased the Wilsons are at last getting recognition, they are excellent and have been friends of mine since 1976.
it gave me great pleasure to watch this programme with my friend Chris and Steve Wilson and their families

I see the Folk Police have arrived, arresting poor old Percy for not coming up to their exacting standards. Let's hope they spell his name correctly on the charge sheet, which is more than they have on this thread!

I thought the whole concert was great, wish I'd gone now.

Just watched it. It was supposed to be a celebration of Percy Granger. Loved everything about it apart from the Percy Granger.

Full marks to the guy for collecting the material. No marks for turning it into twee tea-party diddly-diddly stuff. None of of the raw, visceral emotion of the original, none of the power of pure classical music.

I had to turn the sound off during the strangulated vocals destroying Shallow Brown. Thank God for June Tabor restoring its honour.

At the same time that they loaded the Wilsons they also loaded an item from the Kathryn Tickell Band and the orchestra (Shepherds Hey). I doubt they will load more.

They'll be at Whitby Festival next week, which wouldn't be the same without them.

The BBC Proms have loaded the Wilsons singing 'Round the bay of Mexico' onto You Tube. Hopefully they'll get round to adding more from the concert!

Well said Tim I totally agree with you the Wilson Family were Brilliant, but no more than I would have expected. We were lucky enough to be at the Albert Hall on the night and let me tell you the five star write-ups in the national press were absolutely correct but do not go anywhere near telling how wonderful the concert was. It was a real shot in the arm for Traditional folk music.

Ha -- we have a Wilson family band over here in south Georgia, North Florida in the States... pure DNA-driven bluegrass sweetness... Likely never on BBC, but well worth a listen!

They were even better, live at Saltburn this week end, as were the young uns. The proms, through the good offices of Katherine, gave the genre a real boost. Shame about the clapping at the end meant you could not hear the clogs, and a single cotswold jig could have added at lot. A small niggle though. Some decent telly for a change. Gan Canny Brian

I know that the Wilsons have been mentioned in other BBC Prom related threads but having just watched this excellent concert again, I felt the need to give them their own big thank you for what was a truely outstanding performance. For me the stars of a very well put together show. If you haven't yet seen it, you can still find it on BBC4 iplayer for another 3 days.
