Subject: RE: Wanted: a song to ease football blues From: paul vaughan Date: 28 Aug 11 - 09:14 AM Sorry mate, couldn't resist it. I have to confess though, I only take a slight interest in football. I find it comes in handy for the odd wind up!!! Cheers buddy, seeya!! |
Subject: RE: Wanted: a song to ease football blues From: GUEST Date: 28 Aug 11 - 08:11 AM Paul: I'm sure that was intended to wound, and it did! But we obviously wanted you to go through - why else would we start the game without a striker? |
Subject: RE: Wanted: a song to ease football blues From: paul vaughan Date: 28 Aug 11 - 07:55 AM Thanks for that Colin, I'm currently working my way through your selections, some great stuff there mate!! If you continue to find it too emotionally draining supporting Sunderland might I respectfuly suggest switching allegiance to the wonderful Brighton and Hove Albion!. Currently riding high at the top of the championship, yet to loose a game and with a brand new state of the art stadium!! Oh yes life is indeed good! ;-) |
Subject: RE: Wanted: a song to ease football blues From: Colin Randall Date: 27 Aug 11 - 05:16 PM Paul Vaughan: as promsied ... http://www.salutlive.com/2011/08/song-of-the-day-the-end-of-a-series.html Football results havenn't got much better though! |
Subject: RE: Wanted: a song to ease football blues From: paul vaughan Date: 22 Aug 11 - 04:18 AM Hi leeneia, Sorry about the nasty intro, here's something a little more soothing to make up for it. sssshhhhh!!!! I'm afraid I don't know where the diner is, if I did I'd be there every night!!! |
Subject: RE: Wanted: a song to ease football blues From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 21 Aug 11 - 10:35 PM Paul, I enjoyed the Jive musicians very much. But listen - I have sensitive hearing. Next time warn us that the video starts with a superloud blast of sound from the studio before the real art begins. Okay? Loved it! Where can I find that diner? |
Subject: RE: Wanted: a song to ease football blues From: Nigel Parsons Date: 21 Aug 11 - 07:31 PM Quoted elsewhere, a song by "Zander Nyrond" FOOTBALL (Tune: the obligatory "Greensleeves" cover) Alas, my love, you have squealed on me 'Cause I taped some stuff from the BBC Now they are saying it's piracy 'Cause I couldn't watch any more football. (CHORUS) Football is on every day, Football's about all they show, Football is a ghastly plague, I just cannot stand any more football. In former times before I met you There was Blake and Star Trek and Dr. Who But now those programmes are all but through There'll be nothing to look at but football. (CHORUS) Football is on every day, Football's about all they show, Football is a ghastly plague, I just cannot stand any more football. I turned the box on and swore like hell As Arbroath kicked off against Motherwell On ITV and the Beeb as well Was exactly the same game of football. (CHORUS) Football is on every day, Football's about all they show, Football is a ghastly plague, I just cannot stand any more football. Now I've been caught I'll be put away And I'll bet I know what the judge will say For sixteen hours out of every day I'll be tied down and made to watch football. (CHORUS) Football is on every day, Football's about all they show, Football is a ghastly plague, I just cannot stand any more football. |

Subject: RE: Wanted: a song to ease football blues From: Dave Sutherland Date: 21 Aug 11 - 06:28 AM Haven't you got one left over from last season? We usually exit the City Ground to the tune of "Singin' the Blues" "Never felt more like singin' the blues, When Forest win and Derby lose" err but it's not happening like that this season...(so far) |

Subject: RE: Wanted: a song to ease football blues From: Colin Randall Date: 20 Aug 11 - 03:33 PM Absolutely. I wouldn't say I'm cured - only giving up being a supporter would do that - but it did cheer me up, so much so that I will use the clip to round off my Song of the Day thingie at Salut! Live (definitely a clickie this time though it will be another week or so before Bring Me Sunshine and Paul Vaughan see themselves up in those particular lights). And it stands an excellent chance of being used at Salut! Sunderland tomorrow (still no clickie: I've had 6,000 hits - ie visits, not comments - tonight and most are probably gloating Mags). |

Subject: RE: Wanted: a song to ease football blues From: GUEST Date: 20 Aug 11 - 03:06 PM Answering my own question, I've just found - in a web search - Bruce's Lament, by someone called Adrenalin O.d. It means nothing to me but one line could fit: "The will of the gods made it to be" I'm also sure the Newcastle supporters flooding my Sunderland website (no clickie; I;d just encourage them!) could come up with a few suggestions. Otherwise, maintaining Dave the Gnome's theme, Jackson C Frank's Blues Run The Game? |
Subject: RE: Wanted: a song to ease football blues From: Dave the Gnome Date: 20 Aug 11 - 02:08 PM Seeing as Man City have already been mentioned... Surely, the song to help football blues is 'Blue Moon' :D tG |

Subject: RE: Wanted: a song to ease football blues From: alanabit Date: 20 Aug 11 - 10:54 AM We'd better not sing the Blaydon Races then... (alanabit ducks!) I can't think of anything straight off, although after many embarrassing years of being a Manchester City fan, I really could have done with one or two myself over the years! |
Subject: Wanted: a song to ease football blues From: Colin Randall Date: 20 Aug 11 - 10:27 AM Semi-serious question: does any particular piece of music cheer you up after a bad sports, exam or other kind of result? Put another way, do you have stand-by favourites to turn to when feeling low? I am not talking about life-threatening setbacks, more life's occasional disappointments keenly felt. I am in real need of consolation after Sunderland 0 Newcastle 1 and cannot immediately think of any song or tune, except maybe some long, slow and very self-pitying blues, that would come near to doing the trick. |
