Subject: Need SHEET MUSIC for The Bells
From: John on the Sunset Coast
Date: 24 Aug 11 - 02:33 PM

My brother is looking for sheet music (not just chords) for the Phil Ochs/Poe "The Bells". We've searched the internet, including Levy Archive at John Hopkins; no luck.

Has anybody got a copy or a lead as to where we might find it?

Help appreciated.

Hmmmm. Now I'm wishing our songbook index covered recent (40-yr-old) songs. I couldn't find it in the indexes of Sing Out! or Broadside Magazines, so I'm hoping you've been taken care of by 999. Did you find it in a songbook, 999?

Didn't Oak Publications have a Phil Ochs songbook - anybody have it? Don't I have a Phil Ochs songbook somewhere in the room here? Is there any other song in history that uses the word "tintinnabulation"?

Not even the group of that name uses it in song. BUT, the song was a poem first, and it's commonly known that all poets are a bit nuts.

It's in "The Complete Phil Ochs: Chords of Fame" 1978 Alamo Press.
ISBN 0-89705-010-X

Thanks to you all...the sheet music is coming, resulting from a lead by 999.

Joe, there's a rocker named Kelley Stoltz who does a song called Tintinnabulation, but I can't tell from this video whether the word actually appears in the lyrics:
http://www.uulyrics.com/music/kelley-stoltz/song-tintinnabulation/

There's also someone named Andrew Liles who has recorded a song called Tintinnabulation of Church Bells, according to http://sharemyplaylists.com/artists/Andrew+Liles/track/Tintinnabulation+of+Church+Bells/lyrics but no lyrics are available.

Gerry, I feel like I ought to give you a prize for actually finding a song called Tintinnabulation, but I won't. But hey, you have my eternal admiration. You can find even more useless information than I can.

"and it's commonly known that all poets are a bit nuts."

Yes, but this is Edgar Allen Poe we're talking about here.
