There're fashions in Folk too which operate similarly. I'll be keenly spotting the attire of the Morris Dancers this weekend at Fylde, in the hope that blacking up is so 2008... And Margaret W. was wearing the coolest coat at last night's singaround - must ask her about it later...

I saw a mention in the fashion page of my local paper on Sunday that midi skirts are back.

Does that mean I'm in fashion, or does wearing midid & maxi length skirts since the 70's mean I'm just eccentric/weird/oldfashioned, & fashion is only STARTING to wear midi length cos the fashion press sez. it is fashionable?

I think it's time Mudcat took a leaf out of Facebook's - er - book and had 'like' buttons for posts. I'd certainly 'like' Ernest's post there. Saw my first pewter tankard of the Fylde at last night's opening singaround - & how the heart warms. Like the first cuckoo of spring, or the last rose of summer. Actually, I had a thread about it a few years back:

Nice to see that the Folklore prefix was allowed to remain on that one. I was tempted on this one, seeing as how the vagaries of the fashion industry & the cultural nebulousness of the term 'Folk' can be considered as being genuinely Folkloric. In Folk circles, however, Folklore would seem to be anything but, least not in terms of it's own Folklore...
