Just in case you wondered what this Catter has been up to.
By the way, I released a new solo CD in January. Happy trails!

I also understand that Hoyle Osborne is in the film.

gizza clue
where when who?

I may be busy looking for continuity errors otherwise (boredom factor indicator). I have seen the reviews of the film and - not my kinda film - but with added interest it would be worth a squint.

Early in the film, bar scene, impossible to miss. :-)

There don't seem to be more graphics (it says click the photo for more) - do you have any more photos of the set? Time Travel Music has a trailer for the film (and you get a glimpse of the fiddler).

That's very clever, suggesting a Spielberg homage after the Ford tune. :)

Lorena (this one by John Hartford) appears in many versions on YouTube. This is also a nice version (97th Regimental String Band).

Here's a fiddle version - it really makes a difference what instrument it is played on, doesn't it?

There's a MIDI of it on the ingeb site. I've added it to my piano repertoire. The site says it's from 1857. I don't see any real connection to the Civil War.

Took my grandson to see the movie. He wants the DVD when it comes out.

It was a fun film and I did like the bit of folk music included. Thanks Rex.

Rex, I see that you and Mark Gardner are coming to the wonderful Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix with the exhibition of his photograph collection, The Power of Music, Photographic Portraits of Americans and their Musical Instruments, 1860-1915.

Might be a good time for me to make that trip up there with my son and his friend! (It's on the north side of Phoenix, so a good hour and a half from home in Tucson.)

~ Becky in Long Beach
(but in Tucson half the time)

Oops, I should remember you can't just paste links in here. Thanks to Wesley S for cleaning that up. Yep, Hoyle is in the film sure enough. Our filming overlapped somewhat and we got to visit and play some tunes with friends while in Santa Fe.
It is good to see the interest in Lorena. But not unexpected. Lorena is a great song and The Searchers is a great film. And, anything John Hartford does is great. Thanks for the postings. Likewise with the 97th. They're alright. As for the fiddle, that's all I hear when I think of Lorena. The song is on my first CD with Mark Gardner. And while it was published in '57, it was an important song for the Civil War in both the North and South. Hi Kat, nice to see you chime in.

Rex

Maybe Desert Dancer would like to see us perform closer to Tucson? Can do. We will be offering two shows on the 27th at the Western National Parks Association

So if you can't make it to Phoenix, maybe we'll see you in Tucson.

There is a You Tube of 'Lorena' sung as a duet by Johnny Cash and Burl Ives.
