Subject: Origins: Im not in the navy, a sailor boy I sit
From: GUEST,off old 45' record

Anyone know who sang this song it went like this.

I'm not in the Navy,
a sailor boy I sit.
I got no one to keep me,
so I dont give a
Ships don't sail across the sea,
too far away from shore
I don't wear skirts and girdles,
so you cant call me
Horse and bridle and saddle
thats what I got to sell
if you dont want to buy them
Then you can go to
Helen is my girlfriends name
she drives a Newport truck.
She doesn't drive it very well
but you oughta see her
fumble bumble bumble keeps bumbling with my heart
Every time I eat Navy beans
I always have to
peek around the corner to see what I can see
all that Mama and papa did did did
did you ever meet my wife
you really ought to meet her
she didn't marry me for love all she wanted was
Peter Murphey had a dog a very fine dog was he
he drive his nose up a ladies hose
and drive the smell of her
get away from there naughty dog.

*** that's all I can remember***
This was from an old 45' of my friends Father. I believe from the
50's era. Would love to know artist and name of song.

Thanks
Pep

From Yahoo answers.

Never heard it, but it has more than a few similarities to the song we sang as kids--thought it was real clever and a hoot back then--named Lulu.

I'll go look further.

Yes the song did have bleeps for bad words.I thought they sangnever heard of a Newport truck. New Ford truck makes better sense. I'm going to have to have my friend dig through her boxes and find the record.
I forgot about the forty dollars I have spent lyric. Will still search myself.   Thanks

My dad use to sing this song. We have a recording of him singing it. The version he sang went like this:

Ships go sailing cross the sea so far away from shore
Now they don't wear skirts and girdles so you can't call them a
Horse and bridle saddle is what I've got to sell.
Now If you don't want to buy them then you can go to
Helen is my girlfriends name, she drives a new Ford truck
She ain't much good at driving but you should see her
Fumble fumble fumble she's fumbling with my heart
Everytime I eat navy beans I always have to
Forty dollars I have to spend, there's three more I pass
If you don't like this game of dice then you can kiss my
Asked my girlfriend her name to write down on the list
Everytime I drink cheap 3/2 I always have to
Peter Murphy had a dog a dirty old dog was he
He loaned it to the neighbor just to keep it company
And all around the house at night that dirty old dog would grunt
He'd run his nose up the lady's clothes and try to smell there
Come away you naughty dog you make my pressure rise.
There's never been a man in this whole wide world who'd lay between her but
I'd like to thank you for the glass of beer I'll drink the damn thing down
You'd better get up old man it's time for another round!

I have been looking for this song for years. My dad came home one day and caught us listening to it and burned it. I asked him and he doesn't even remember the song. Did anyone ever find it?

Wow, I have been looking for these lyrics for quite some time now. My Dad had this song on a party album a long with other naughty songs. He always wanted another record but I could never find it for him... he has long since passed away but I still look now and again for some of his favorites. If any one can give me a name of who did this song or if they have a "party album" that it was on, I would love any info ya have.

Thanks!!

My father used to sing this around the campfire when my brother and I were little. He tought me how to play guitar, but never the chords to this song, so if anybody does find the artist, or maybe if anyone play guitar themselves, could let me know what chords to play something like this. Thank you! Can't believe I finally found a posting on this, my dad died a couple years ago and I haven't found a single mention of the song until now!
Serendipity?

I have it on a 78 RPM single, titled The Beep Beep Song. It's a plain blue label with no label name, no writers' credit and no artist name. Just the song title, and nothing else. The flip side is Excuse Me, Please, a play on the familiar "I knew an old cowboy from Kent...." saga. I bought it in a collectors shop in the early 1970s. The shop owner speculated that it was from the late 1930s, but he wasn't sure, either. I don't think it dates back that far, though. To this day, I still don't know who the artist is. If that information ever surfaces, I for one would be most grateful!

Song is by Big Rock and Tadpole. You can go to YouTube and hear it.

My dad used to play it on his old 45s too when I was a kid, I remember it well.

The song starts out as "Now I'm in the Navy, A sailor boy I sit......" was a song titled the "Beep Beep Song" not to be confused with a few other songs with the same title.

The 45rpm record my dad had was from the 50's or early 60's recorded on "Outhouse Records" by "Danny and The Bull Shippers". I still perform this song live at parties I play.
