This is another song written by Kieran Wade that was recorded by Sean Keane on his "Irish Scattering" album.
The words I have are pretty much as Beer has them in his last post. The Youtube video is slighly out of sync so it's hard to make out all the words. I downloaded Kieran's version of the song from Itunes and you can also get it here:

So according to the Radio tape I have it should look like this.

The Autumn winds are blowing across the South Saskatchewan prairie
Bringing just a hint of cold and winter still to come.
That's when my mind starts turning towards a place in Tipperary,
The green and pleasant country that used to be my home.

When your last in line for the family farm
Your choices ain't that many.
To leave behind the life you've known
And head out on your own.
Yeah! but we were young, we didn't care
And we saved up every penny.
Headed out to Canada and a place to call our own.

CHORUS
"When the ice and snow seems to go on forever.
Makes me think that maybe we should quit and go back home.
But then spring time comes around again,
And chance of better weather.
Think we'll try one more year,
To make it on our own.

We left Ireland seven years ago, we were going to get married,
Buy some land and build a house and raise a family.
But then two years drought and two years floods,
And our dreams they soon got buried.
Debts piled high as winter's snows,
Brought us to our knees.

When you fall behind and the payments due, well the banks don't show much pity,
They called the loan we had to sell, we lost what we had owned.
Now I'm working in a factory in this cold and concrete city,
Time and place a million miles from the places that I've known.

Now the wheat fields of Saskatchewan lie golden in the sunshine.
Summer breeze has pushed the clouds across the prairie skies.
But my memory lies where Irish skies lie in eternal (?) springtime.
Where simpler times for simpler minds kept promises for life.

CHORUS

Thanks Mick, hope guest Uwe comes back.
The video is interesting in that it is different from the radio recording I taped. The video says it was live from Toronto so maybe Kieran Wade was nervous or forgot how he had recorded it. For example, verse two on the video he repeats twice, but on the recording I heard and taped is as follows.

When your last in line for the family farm
Your choices ain't that many.
To leave behind the life you've known
And head out on your own.
Yeah! but we were young, we didn't care
And we saved up every penny.
Headed out to Canada and a place to call our own.

CHORUS
"When the ice and snow seems to go on forever.
Makes me think that maybe we should quit and go back home.
But then spring time comes around again,
And chance of better weather.
Think we'll try one more year,
To make it on our own.

The third verse is then " We left Ireland 7 years ago ......."

4th verse is: "When you fall behind....."

The last verse is:

" Now the wheat fields of Saskatchewan lie golden in the sunshine.
Summer breeze has pushed the clouds across the prairie skies.
But my memory lies where Irish skies lie in eternal (?) springtime.
Where simpler times for simpler minds kept promises for life".

CHORUS

If it's any help here's most of it from the video. If you've got the words you can fill in the missing bits and save me extracting the audio and processing it!

THE FIELDS OF SASKATCHEWAN
(Tip Splinter)

Oh the Autumn winds are blowing across the South Saskatchewan prairie
Bringing just a hint of cold and winter still to come.
That's when my mind starts turning towards a place in Tipperary,
The green and pleasant country that used to be my home.

Now when you're far behind and the payments due, well the banks don't show much pity,
The Cullen(?) home we had to sell, we lost what we had owned.
Now I'm working in a factory in this cold and concrete city,
Time and place a million miles from the places that I've known.

When the ice and the snow seems to go on forever,
It makes me think that maybe we should quit and go back home;
But then springtime comes around again, the chance of better weather,
We could try just one more year to make it on our own.

We left Ireland seven years ago, we were going to get married,
Buy some land and build a house and raise a family.
But then two years drought and two years floods(?) and those dreams they soon got buried
Debts piled hight, the winter's snows have brought us to our knees.

Now when ...
When the ice...

[Instrumental]

The wheat fields of Saskatchewan lie golden in the sunshine
Summer breezes push the clouds across the prairie skies,
But my memory lies where Irish skies lie in the ??? springtime
Simpler times for simpler minds ????

When the ice...

Uwe,
Can't get it to copy or paste. I can get it to you by e-mail but you would have to join mudcat so you could p.m. me. Or if some member here wants me to send it to them to try, I could do that.

I like to do this song when the opportunity arises. I wrote out the words from a cassette that I had recorded years back. If you really want the words you could listen to it on 9's link and pause and write.
Love the song.

The band "Tip Splinter" sang a song named "The Fields of Saskatchewan".
Anybody has the lyrics? An Irish Canadian Band about 1990.
Textparts: "...is when my mind starts turn cold... a place in Tipperary, the green and pleasent country that used to be my home...
