Subject: Wiltshire Dialect Poem. From: GUEST,Mike Yates. Date: 12 Sep 11 - 04:58 AM About thirty years ago Roly Brown and myself collected a number of songs in the Wiltshire village of Urchfont. We also recorded a dialect poem which I have been unable to trace. It tells of a farmer who lets out his land to grazing horses. The cost for this service depends on the length of the horses' tails! Short-tailed horses cost more, because they spend more energy keeping the flys at bay, and thus eat more grass! Does anyone know this poem, or have any idea who might have written it? |
Subject: RE: Wiltshire Dialect Poem. From: Pete MacGregor Date: 12 Sep 11 - 03:54 PM This was performed at the Village Pump folk club in Trowbridge a couple of months ago. I think it was given by Vic May who often sings Wiltshire dialect songs and has a few poems. I don't have contact details for him but he is a regular at the Pump and I'll ask him about it when I see him next. Pete |
