Subject: CDSS Survey (Music, Dance & Song)

The Country Dance & Song Society would very much appreciate input (from both CDSS members and non-members) about how our organization can make dancing and music more rewarding for YOU. We are giving fresh consideration to future directions for CDSS as we begin the process of finding a new Executive Director and are about to enter our second 100 years(!).   Where should we focus our resources? How can a continent-wide organization help your local dance/music community the most? Give us your opinions here --

And you can also offer strategic planning ideas, especially lengthier ones or ideas that come to you after completing the survey, here: - (no login necessary)

Thanks for your input!

CDSS headquarters are in Massachusetts, but it is US wide organisation.
It runs programs during the summer months at Pinewoods Camp near Plymouth, MA, but that does not constitute all that CDSS does or is trying to do in the future.

A North American organization, actually. :-) I was a board member at the same time as Marian Rose, from Vancouver, BC, and the board president (whose name escapes me, I'm afraid, it's been 10 years!) was from Ottawa.

The offices are near Northampton, in western Massachusetts (just having moved from Haydenville to Easthampton). They run camps during the summer in Plymouth, New Hampshire, and West Virginia. However, they also support organizations and individuals around North America through their grants and organizing assistance.

In recent years, in addition to their publications, they have been developing a library of materials on the web that are great - see "Library" and "Advice & How To" at the web site.

Their emphasis is stronger in traditional dance than song, but song is still definitely in the mix.

I'd like people to think about how they (meaning both CDSS and the people who care about it) can support the "and Song" part of their name better.
