Probably old news to people in the USA, but to us it explains much.

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/palin-took-cocaine-cheated-husband-094300647.html

Sad with politicians isn't it.... I was sorry when Gary Hart got outed, he seemed quite nice.

"Let he who is without sin" etc etc.
I suppose it must be hard to emmulate the Democrat "saints",JFK and Slack Willie.

Scotlands National Poet said it better than any.

"
Then gently scan your brother man,
    Still gentler sister woman ;
Tho' they may gang a kennin wrang,
To step aside is human :
One point must still be greatly dark,
    The moving why they do it ;
And just as lamely can ye mark
How far perhaps they rue it.

8.
Who made the heart, 'tis He alone
    Decidedly can try us :
He knows each chord, its various tone,
Each spring, its various bias :
Then at the balance let's be mute,
    We never can adjust it ;
What's done we partly may compute,
    But know not what's resisted"

Robert Burns....."Address to the Unca Guid."

Take the Sun.   Multiply by 10 (at least).    Then you're approaching the reliability of items in the National Enquirer.

This may help sell books. It will do nothing else.

What's more, it's yesterday's news in the extreme, since Sarah is yesterday's girl. She was too clever by half.   Thought she could wait til Labor Day to announce.   Now Perry has used up all her oxygen.

Translation of this for UK readers available on request if needed, but it should be clear enough.

Sorry, but; as one who cringes in horror at the thought of Palin in any position of national influence, let alone the presidency, I wouldn't give a moment's creedance to these "revelations" without confirmation from far different sources. Taking "facts" from the National Inquirer is like imagining you can read facts from the stains on used toilet paper.

This has nothing to do with her morals, Ake. It has to do with the shit she's been slinging against anyone who isn't a right-wing republican. A lobotomy would improve her intelligence. I never have had any use for Slick Willy or JFK for that matter. So put away your political agenda and look at the person. That bitch has implied all kinds of stuff--unfounded--about Obama, and she's got away with it. Finally, she has some of it in her own lap. It's about time, and I don't care what political party she's with.

Politicians have been elected despite these allegations- Bush Jr was reported to be a drunk and cocaine user; Newt served his wife divorce papers after her cancer operation. Some get elected, some get the boot. It's an odd conundrum; Weiner got himself tossed out of office (and has served up his district with a Republican as a result) for far lesser crimes-poor b(****d didn't even get laid. I can't always make sense of what the public lauds and/or forgives.

But the two things that scare me about Sarah, besides her extremist right wing politics, is how she just quit the governorship without any reason and no one really seems to take her to task for it. And most importantly, how very unlearned and ignorant she is; tho her fans seem to accept it, as if being shrewd is a subsitute for intelligence.

It's been quite a while since we elected politicians because we knew that intellectually, they were BETTER than the average joe, so that we had thoughtful statespeople like Roosevelt, JFK, heck even Eisenhower had a well thought message compared to brickbrains like Palin.

Would be nice if politics and politicians stopped being just another reality show.

I think she deserves to go back into the obscurity of being just another ex-governor of Alaska. How many others can you name?

The book has all the usual old garbage that can be dredged up about most people. And most of it is unprovable (he said, she denied).

I don't hold any brief for Palin, she would be a useless leader, but muckraker book plus Enquirer = 0.

Q... "And most of it is unprovable (he said, she denied)."

But, if that is the case, is the writer liable for libel in a court of law? That is my point. This guy would not have written it if he couldn't prove it. However, as I stated above, I don't give two shits from Tuesday if she snorted cocaine or fuck her brains out with some basketball player. All I care about is that some brain dead twit actually was BROUGHT IN, ran for VP and might run for P... and that she got some votes!!!

The National Enquirer had NOTHING to do with book except to boost it's sales so it's not even in the discussion as far as I am concerned. The discussion shouldn't even be about whatever she or her husband or her family did in the past... it should be about the fact that she as stunned as me arse. Although, I must say again, I like 9's take on her getting "what comes around".

That's what tabloids count on is people thinking that way - it makes them rich. Very few people in the public eye want to go into a court of law and sue. Because then you set yourself up to be crossexamined in open court. A lawyer can go where ever they want to looking for dirt. Better to just ignore it.

Sarah Palin is this year a political non-entity. Expect her exposure and influence to decline in step with rise in certainty about whomever will be the next Republican nominee.

Expect this current book about Palin to be shortly as germaine as the book by whatshisname last Spring about Obamas' birth certificate!

Like the birth certificate issue, seems to me that Sarah Palins' celebrity has been "overtaken by events!"

I was talking to a friend of my niece -- and said something about the reliability of anything in the enquirer. He laughed and said, "That piece was well documented -- and I got paid a lot of money for it." I have no idea what piece he wrote (He's the editor of a weekly paper in Anchorage) or if he wrote about affairs and cocaine use.
The book by Joe McGinnis isn't due to be released until Sept. 20. I've also talked to him and read most everything he has written and find it well-documented. I know many people he talked to about Ms. Palin, and they are people who knew her and would have been truthful.
When a story about Sarah Palin's alleged infidelities came out a few years ago, it was laughed at, especially by those who knew the alleged partner. I didn't vote for her as governor. She defeated a good, well-qualified former governor. I was horrified when she was named vp candidate but glad because I knew it assured an Obama victory.

Maybe, but if the photos of Obama in bed with a choirboy had turned up, and then McCain caught a bullet - she might have been president.

"assured an Obama victory" .   Dream on.   The only thing that killed McCain was his deer in the headlights/ headless chicken approach to the financial crisis.

Bringing her on brought the passion McCain sorely needed--though he needed it at the top of the ticket.    Ask yourself where the passion was in the 2008 general election.

As for Sarah:    only real point to make of this is that, as the country song says:   "It Makes No Difference Now" since she is, as I noted ,"Yesterday's Girl" (Hank Snow, I think.
Whether she did coke or slept around is at this point just a meaningless trivia question.

I suspect the book will be a flop.   At this point, who cares?

And for the reason I cited:   Rick Perry has used up all her oxygen. She waited too long.

I read something that put it quite well:

2011:   she strings it out as to whether she will run.

2012:    she strings it out as to when she endorses Perry.    She will have no other choice.

Now she's just another rich celebrity.   She may have some influence with her would-be supporters in influencing their choice.   But she can never be that choice.

And she will eventually have to support Perry.   Only question is when.

Well, I think if Sarah decides not to run, America will have lost a real chance to save itself from the disaster waiting down the road.

In the UK, the political parties have degenerated into squabbling factions....none of them have any idea how to address the economic mess which envelopes the "developed" West.

Politics simply cannot react to what has happened, their system has been shown as worthless.....a sham.

Ron...a good commentator on US politics is right, what is needed is passion and inspiration, for our problems can only be mitigated by us as individuals.....this is the endgame for the West and we need a leader who will tell us that only we ourselves can dig our way out of the hole that we all have made.

Over the past few years, I've re-evaluated my left wing beliefs and found that they have become too complicated and too devisive,we need unity and cohesion over issues like our survival, rather than all the petty squabbling we have seen from politicians determined to keep a failed system in power.

I cant believe you folks cannot see the qualities that people like Mrs Palin possess....forget the petty gripes and see the bigger picture.

Interesting Ake....!

I'm surprised you didn't twig that being a left winger sort of implied there is an active right wing. And being a member of the left wing - well it was almost a definition of 'divisive'.

As for the other stuff .....well you were never all that keen on the two main parties anyway.

Why you think America has missed out not being run by a coke sniffing dingbat, who poses in a bikini with combat rifle and whose family spend their leisure hours playing with electric tazer guns - well that one beats me. I think the world came uncomfortably close to being run by a halfwit.

Sarah Palin complained that Tina Fey on "Saturday Night Live" exploited her and tried to make her look ridiculous. Tina Fey said that one of the very easy things about doing a take-off on Sarah Palin is that she, Tina Fey, didn't have to write a routine. She just memorized a couple of Sarah Palin's speeches and recites them verbatim.

Naw, gilly. You likely don't recall the old saw: "In the north they don't care how close you get as long as you don't get too big. In the south they don't care how big you get as long as you don't get too close."

The real story is not with whom she slept--because basically that's no one's business. The real story's that there IS a god and Palin has finally got some of what she's been dishing out coming back to bite her.
I think it's about time.

Trick? But, as I stated above, she could sue his ass off. Now, my comment on him being paid to do it... how would he get around the IRS? Swiss bank account or elsewhere? And, why would he need more money? He's got money to burn from previous work. So, what's the motive?

Can you be jailed in the US for libel? or just sued for damages?

Hehehehee... defamation of character might be difficult to prove... ya gotta have it first.

////Trick? But, as I stated above, she could sue his ass off.////

Not if all this was agreed on beforehand.

////Now, my comment on him being paid to do it... how would he get around the IRS? Swiss bank account or elsewhere?////

He could have accepted gifts. He could have accepted a pat on the ass.

////And, why would he need more money?////

He doesn't necessarily need anything. He's a shill in a dirty tricks campaign for the same reason other people become shills--he believes in what he's doing.

////He's got money to burn from previous work. So, what's the motive?///

The last time a "liberal journalilst" fell for a dirty trick was Dan Rather when he bought those phony miltary documents about Bush. Everything in them was true but the documents themselves were bogus and easy to debunk as forgeries. Rather believed them because he knew the info in them was true. He was tricked. It ruined his career and killed any interest in the highly questionable version Bush handed the world wabout his military service--it got him sympathy and therefore votes. Sarah Palin no doubt has many dark secrets and all are in that book along with complete rubbish. But into the book and the rubbish will be exposed as false and will completely kill any interest in ANY of the info in the book. It worked once, no reason it wouldn't work again if fools buy into it. Sound like motive enough?

Writers do not necessarily have ethics but *all* of them are concerned about their reputations. Does josepp truly think that McGinnis would risk his?

McGinnis has already trashed his cred with this book which has been shredded by several "liberal media" outlets including the NYT. I haven't read it but from what I understand it has few if any footnotes and is therefore all hearsay--if true, that's not anything a writer would put out if he were interested in his reputation. If anything in it were true and provable then why would NYT trash it? Doesn't make sense. NYT learned its lesson with Judith Miller and Jason Blair--another writer so interested in his rep that he blatantly made up stories and then laughed and bragged when they were exposed as lies even though it meant his career was over.

I'll guarantee the stuff about her having sex with a black basketball player is false. She's not the type. She's the kind of white woman who would never sleep with any man that wasn't white. It would never occur to her to do otherwise. She only finds white men attractive and the rest are scarcely human as far as she is concerned. But it's precisely the juicy kind of tidbit that rightwing spin doctors would put in the book hoping it would stir up prurient ideas in liberal minds.

Other stuff in the book might be true, but they're going to make sure the stuff that really stands out most and titillates liberal sex fantasies overshadows it and gets all the attention so they can then expose it as false which will then destroy all interest in anything else that appears in that book so that even when the true stuff in it is brought to light, the public will go "YAWN! It's a dead issue!" It's worked before and it will work again but only if the "liberal media" have a field day with it. Well, they did but not in the way the RW kooks had hoped.

They're not about to be taken in twice and they are wise to think that way. They are right to try and suppress the book. It needs to be investigated and whatever in it that's true then exposed to the public BEFORE this book is ever seen. Not hard to imagine why they feel this way if the book has nothing provable in it and it obviously doesn't or it wouldn't have been received so badly by a media that loves to put this woman on the spot. They know a rat when they smell it and so do I. Do you?

It is not a worse thing to say than she cheated. Good god, I have no problem with her feeling that way. She has a right to feel that way. She simply isn't the type.

But the bottom line is, the book is probably a trick and I urge people not to believe anything in it until an independent and impartial source can prove it.

After all, if it was written about you, that's what you would ask of people, isn't it?

Todd PalinTodd Palin was born and raised in Dillingham, Alaska to James F. "Jim" and Blanche Palin (née Kallstrom).

His father, a native of Seattle, Washington, is a former general manager of Matanuska Electrical Association. His mother, a former secretary of the Alaska Federation of Natives, is one-quarter Yup'ik, and his maternal grandmother, Helena (Bartman) Andree, is a member of the Curyung tribe. His paternal grandfather, Frederick William Palin, was born in Hartney, Manitoba, Canada in February 1905.

In 1982, Palin graduated from Wasilla High School, which is the same alma mater of his wife and their eldest two children, son Track and daughter Bristol. He has taken some college courses but does not have a degree.

Palin was a union member and belonged to the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union (United Steelworkers).

For eighteen years, he worked for BP in the North Slope oil fields of Alaska. In 2007, in order to avoid a conflict of interest that related to his wife's position as governor, he took a leave[12] from his job as production supervisor, when his employer became involved in natural gas pipeline negotiations with his wife's administration. Seven months later, because the family needed more income, Todd returned to BP. In order to avoid potential conflict of interest, this time, he accepted a non-management position as a production operator. He resigned from his job on September 18, 2009, with the stated reason as a desire to spend more time with his family.

He is also a commercial salmon fisherman at Bristol Bay on the Nushugak River.Info easily found by Googling.

I'd be considerably more interested in looking into the "potential conflict of interest" thing than I am in Todd Palin's lineage.

Hell, I'm half Scottish, half Swedish. Some people find that kinda weird (I'm always torn between the haggis and the lutefisk*).

*Lutefisk = the piece of Cod that passeth all understanding.

So Todd Palin is 1/8 Alaskan native then. That seems more reasonable. If he was half, why doesn't ANY part of that heritage show up? You'd see...something.

Add to that a lousy record on human rights, and promisory notes to every right wing religious nut on the planet - you've got the reason she needs hitting with every rotten kipper you can throw at her.

I dont think it matters to much who wins what Al, or even the result in 2012.....What is important, is that our respective electorate start to understand what has happened to us economically, why it had to happen, how there is no painless answer and especially why there is no answer at all without systemic change.

Unless we are prepared to write off a couple of generations of young people.

I can remember having conversations like this with marxists in 1979. They said it made no difference who won the election. Tory or Labour, they said, like a choice between a dose of the pox and a dose of the clap....

Good old Mrs Thatcher proved them wrong however, she proved there WERE definitely differences.

Its okay saying it makes no difference if you're in a position where it doesn't make all that much difference. But if you're at the bottom of the pile - believe you me, it matters who wins elections.

It also matters if you have a conscience or a brain. There are people here in the UK saying that after Blair/Brown and the current frauds they cannot take a political choice. All that does is give the hucksters a better chance.
