Subject: RE: Umps and Dumps From: GUEST Date: 16 Sep 11 - 07:49 AM I certainly heard them play and danced at some of their ceilidhs (mid 70s). They were something of an inspiration for a band I formed at the time, which also had a banjo player working a kick drum and hi-hat, and a hammered dulcimer. One of my favourite bands at the time, along with Flowers and Frolics. |

Subject: RE: Umps and Dumps From: Banjo-Flower Date: 16 Sep 11 - 03:52 AM The other musicians on Tufty Swift's album"how to make a Bakewell Tart"were all members of Umps and Dumps so I would assume it may be Umps and Dumps without the name and its also an excellent album Gerry |
Subject: RE: Umps and Dumps From: Reinhard Date: 15 Sep 11 - 06:01 PM There is an Umps & Dumps track on the BBC Radio Derby charity cassette The Derby Tub Presents but this may well have been taken from The Moon's in a Fit. |
Subject: RE: Umps and Dumps From: Herga Kitty Date: 15 Sep 11 - 04:49 PM I think there might have been a technical glitch, but I meant to say, that there was one, and only one, U&D album, and that U&D included Derek Pearce from Roaring Jelly (and now, the Omega Three). Kitty |
Subject: RE: Umps and Dumps From: Herga Kitty Date: 15 Sep 11 - 04:45 PM Jim - well, there was, and they recorded an album called the , which included Derek Pearce from Roaring Jelly. Butler - I fear you're right, there was only one album from U&D. Kitty |
Subject: RE: Umps and Dumps From: Smokey. Date: 15 Sep 11 - 04:41 PM I've played on the stage on the front cover more than a few times.. I don't think they recorded anything else as Umps and Dumps, but if they did I'd love to hear it. A delightful album. |
Subject: RE: Folklore: Umps and Dumps From: Jim Dixon Date: 15 Sep 11 - 04:35 PM You mean there's really a band called the Umps and Dumps? |
Subject: Folklore: Umps and Dumps From: blindboybutler Date: 15 Sep 11 - 04:27 PM Question for older members... Did the Umps and Dumps record anything other than 'The Moon's In A Fit' Before we get a list a zillion miles long, I'm aware of what each member has done. And, before we get a list ten zillion miles long I'm aware of what Kirkpatrick has done. I'm very young (a mere 32) so I wasn't around when the album was released. But, does anyone remember them performing the material live? Were any live recordings made? I think it's a special record. A real British mix of folk, marching music, trad jazz, music hall. It's all in there. Ta Butler |
