This year's National Storytelling Festival is Oct. 7-9. For once, it doesn't conflict with the Getaway. Unfortunately I can't attend either, but I do urge anyone nearby to go. ;-)

Featured this year are:

David Holt

and

Donald Davis

I'll post more of the tellers in the next few days, to keep the thread going. Enjoy!

Bill Harley is featured this year, as is

Ed Stivender. He's a school teacher, and this is a pretty shakey video of a school assembly. He's doing Bill Harley's "50 Ways to Fool Your Mother."

Years ago I had a tape of David Holt called The Hairy Man and other stories. I lost it and would love to have it back. He's a great entertainer.

I did that festival back in, 1980 I think it was. Lots of fun for all.

A young man said to me, "I like your stories, but why don't you tell them in a Maine accent like Marshall Dodge"? I didn't know whether to laugh or smack him.

Kendall, were you at the festival in the early 1990s, and telling at the Swapping Grounds? If so, I have a picture of you. ;-) One of my kids spent an entire day at the Swapping Grounds one year, finally getting up the nerve to tell a story himself.

That David Holt album is available on CD and as a MP3 download. They're perfect Halloween stories.

I was there in 1980 but not since. They don't pay enough to make the trip worth the time and expense.
It is, however, a great experience.

It may be expensive, but it's addicting. I'll be there, if anybody wants to split a motel room with me.

Bil Lepp is a clergyman (search youtube for sermons) who has won the WV Liars Contest so many times that he's now retired.

Waddie Mitchell is a classic cowboy poet.
