Subject: RE: Tune Req: Whisky in the Jar From: Dan Mulligan Date: 28 Sep 99 - 04:59 PM Well there is a midi for the tune in the Digital traditions Data base. I have also seen a midi file of the tune under the title " Kilgary Mountain." If you have a windows PC you can view MIDI files as notation using a shareware application called "Noteworthy Composer." http://www.ntworthy.com/ If you have a Mac, there is and excellent shareware application called "Melody Assistant" that reads MIDI files and displays them as notation. http://www.gmeb.fr/SoftwareCompetition/Softs98/MelodyAssistant1.0-98.sit I strongly recomend either of these applications, because you can view, edit and print the notation for any tune that you find a MIDI file of on the internet (that is literally hundreds of thousands of tunes.) Dan BTW there is also an MP3 file of "Whisky In The Jar" as performed by "The Buccaneers" at www.mp3.com.

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Whisky in the Jar From: Jon Freeman Date: 28 Sep 99 - 05:27 PM Melody assistant is also available for the PC and IMO for $15, it is well worth considering and it handles ABC and other formats as well. For MIDI, I use an early version (v3 - I thinnk that they are on v8 now) of CakeWalk and prefer that to Melody Assistant but CakeWalk is rather more expensive. Jon |
