Subject: RE: folk in Derby area October From: Big Al Whittle Date: 04 Oct 11 - 06:39 PM There used to be a good session at The Barley Mow in the village of Bonsall on a Friday night. Phone up and check its still going. they do quite good food also Check if theres anything going on at The Fishponds Matlock on Sundays - used to be a decent scene there. Things change though. |

Subject: RE: folk in Derby area October From: Dave Sutherland Date: 03 Oct 11 - 08:53 AM Thanks for the Evening Post mention Al. Second Time Around is now in the Star Inn, Middle Street, Beeston and as well as having two good guests on that Friday they are also singer and performer friendly. Burton on Trent isn't running every Friday over the next few months so worth checking; Bingham club certainly is. Mansfield - The Brown Cow formerly on a Tuesday is now at The Black Bull, Woodhouse Road on a Monday. Vernon Arms, Spondon and Old Kings Head, Belper on Tuesdays. Carrington Triangle. The Gladstone, Carrington and Ilkeston Rugby Club on Wednesday. Sorry not to do this earlier but it has been a busy weekend; a family to take out, a folk club to run, a manager to sack.... |

Ypu're less than an hour on the mptorway to the Hare and Hounds at Kings heath, Brum - one of the longest running folk clubs in the country on Saturday. Hope this is helpful. |
Subject: RE: folk in Derby area October From: Big Al Whittle Date: 03 Oct 11 - 08:09 AM The thing about that area is that the roads are good and by seven at night - barring road accidents they are deserted - so we used to zip out thirty or forty miles without a second thought Down here in Dorset - fifteen miles is an afternoon's outing! Fri day night always used to be either Bingham folk club, or Howard Coleman's acoustic session at the Greyhound Loughborough, the Doghouse annexe. As they say the Leicester folk diary is pretty good, but check the Nottingham evening post and derby evning Telegraph. Burton used to have a decent folk club on a Friday night. There used to be one at The White Lion Beeston also - but it moved to somewhere else. In that area you can do folk clubs and open mic every night of the week. i think you probably can most places if you're willing to adapt to local conditions. Saturday night was The Robin Hood club in Nottingham. |
