Skarpi apparently is a leader once again.

He gets blown away, and then he sends the wind down here?

A shift in the weather here, after a month or so of really boring sunny-and-dry has suddenly produced Tornado Warnings in four or five Kansas counties, and closing of a 55 or 60 mile stretch of an Interstate Highway (I-70) in the western part of the state due to 60 - 70 mph winds yesterday afternoon. (Only 40 - 45 in town here thought.) That's not extremely unusual wind in the area, but it's enough to tip a semi (or a camper) off the road if it gusts slantwise to the road; and it's enough to sandblast the paint off a car.

Sure hope he hasn't passed his big wind on to too many other places.

Maybe if it blows on down south a bit it might stir up some rain in North Texas - they're still bone dry going on a fourth month or so.

Regardless of the weather, Skarpi needs to keep the wounds clean so his purty face don't get all messed up.

There are different names out there that only meteorologists seem to know - occasionally one of them makes it into the news. Types of cyclonic wind movement - on a huge scale, based on water temperature, hurricane or typhoon. But then there are cyclones, a term used abroad but not the same as a tornado, and then there are the storms a friend in Illinois described as "an inland hurricane," and more. For example, a "derecho" has various forms but isn't (I think) quite the same as a series of storms full of tornadoes. I imagine any of these storms could pick up pebbles if it crosses over beaches or loose soil with lots of rocks in it.

This search at the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in the US has links to various types of wind storms.

Skarpi, that sounds like it was nearly a tornado! Yes, I know their rare in Iceland but they have been seen there.

well all , I was alone in the car , the car lifted up and down again , then stones started to come at the car in a strong wind shape and sand and in a second it was gone and it was raining and I was so cold right after one min , yes it was a strange weather , very so , the weather was good , but this was just one shape and búmmmm after that it was okei . The police was very helpful and i kept the car for few hours at station and then I plasted all the windows and headed back home. Now I am red on one chin and white on the other , I took most of the glass and sand out of my skin myself and i feel a little sore at the moment and tired , I was shocked and stil is ..when the wind shape took the windows I could not breath for about 30 sec...it was so strong . The car did not turn over thank god for that .
so now I will take the car on Monday and get it fixed
all the best to you all and take care and remember he can take you away in a sec , what you have today , you may not have tomorrow .

So glad you are OK. That must have been one hell of a storm. We had quarter sized hail here over the summer and I was amazed that no windows (car or house) were broken.

Our weather forecasters sometimes refer to "baseball sized hail" but it sounds like it must have been raining real baseballs there.

I was slightly astonished until I saw the headline that it Rained EGGS in Parliament there.

Hallo all , I was driving road one to the Capital this morning , and drove into a very bad storm , 7 out 8 windows are broken and some of the glass went into my skin but my eyes are okei other than that I am okei but I have to fix my car , that can take some time .
